Is it so hard to believe that Ray is legitimately not coming here? Cam Akers was never coming here either lol.

Can we focus on guys we actually have a shot with like Sterling?

I don't think we get either one.

I get this line of reasoning but you've gotta go after big time recruits if you wanna win championships.

I think we may just be in a bad spot where Ray has more reason to go to Bama but Sterling wants early playing time and has an easier path to that at USCe with Muschamp.

Still gotta fight for both though

Our coaches are trying/tried. But that doesn't mean we as fans have to obsess with guys like Ray/Akers when they obviously are not coming here. It's setting ourselves up for a let down.

Notice I didn't say this about guys like Trey Smith who we obviously had a very good chance with. It's not a doom and gloom thing to admit Akers and Ray aren't coming here. Were never coming here. Akers didn't even OV to us lol.

Vereen has average physical talent but gives superior effort. His value is completely related to character and effort. When it comes to physical attributes, he's a dime a dozen in the SEC.

Very well said. Very stiff hips and legs, limited athletically. He's been a serviceable DE opposite DB for us. We need elite athletes at that position which is what I thought we had in Taylor and Phillips...we'll see.

Sterling is disruptive, to say the least. His combined numbers the past two seasons (27 games): 157 tackles, 53.5 TFL, 39 sacks, 3 INTs & 4 forced fumbles. He also had 20 QB hurries in 2015 but this stat was not reported for the 2016 season.

Ok, I gotcha. Definitely understand from a fan standpoint.

Still, the coaches gotta go after elite guys if we want to land them.

Has 247 given an explanation as to why they have him rated so low? All the other sites have him as a top 250 player, 247 has him in the 800's

This guys is a teeener but he would be a good pickup. If we managed to get him and conliffe on bird somehow, then our DL class will have come together really nicely.

No one who looks to be an instant impact guy, but a lot of guys with high upside and if you bring in enough of those guys you never know who might turn out to be a freshman phenom.

Agree with this. We saw, or at least I did, Barnett as a tweener and didn't expect him to make an instant impact. Expected him to contribute because of our Dooley talent but not be dominant early.

Grades, but had a very good year on the field. Tn is out front for him.

AARON STERLING

Defensive end

6-2.5, 250 pounds

Tucker (Ga.) High School

With Ray is expected to be a tough pull for Tennessee, Sterling appears to be one of the Vols’ most realistic options on the defensive line. The three-star prospect, who was committed to Alabama before reopening his recruitment in September, currently is focused on four schools — South Carolina, Tennessee, N.C. State and Georgia — and he’s planning to take official visits to at least South Carolina and Tennessee this month. The 247Sports Crystal Ball currently points to the Gamecocks as the favorites to land him, but the Vols already have hosted him on multiple visits and still appear to have a legitimate shot.
