'17 GA DE Aaron Sterling

Chad Simmons

Just watched some tape on him for the first time and I can see why the coaches have been firm in their pursuit. The kid looks much better than the 3 star ratings he has received. He had 15.5 sacks, 19.5 TFL this past season. I see him as a mid to high 4*This will be a big boom if he commits..

If the front page stats are accurate 6'1" 270 lbs, with one year in Gullickson's S&C program, I can see him inside as a RS Freshman. I can't see him playing DE at 6'1".
Just a little bit on the short side for SEC DL, unless he's got long arms for his height. Y'all are probably better off getting Thaxton and Conliffe.

Hadn't heard we were chasing any other DBs, but I thought we were looking to take on more WR?

He's an inch taller than Aaron Donald and weighs about 15 pounds less than him out of high school. I think his size is fine, especially with Shoop running the show. Unfortunately, I just don't think this kid ends up here, but I think he has potential to be a very good 3-tech DT.

Aaron Donald is kind of an anomaly at that size though.

Being on the short side doesn't mean a kid can't be successful on the DL by any means. But it does make it more difficult.

We're still looking at WR's. We have 3-4 in mind. 2 of them are making visits or have made visits. I think one of them comes next weekend for a visit too.

The highlights...
- He's down to Tennessee and South Carolina. Visited Georgia on Friday and enjoyed it but is down to Tennessee and South Carolina. Said both are better fits for him.
- Really enjoyed his visit to Tennessee but isn't naming a leader. Vols and South Carolina are even.
- He's waiting for National Signing Day to make his decision. Probably just gonna put two hats on the table and pick one. Nothing too fancy.
- He likes Butch Jones, Bob Shoop, Steve Stripling and Tommy Thigpen and said he "definitely" could see himself playing for them.
- Hosted by Darrell Taylor this weekend. He had a good time.

If he's waiting until NSD, then that tells me he wants to be a Vol and is plan B, if Ray goes to Bama.

High motor kid. Will probably need a RS to add strength/weight but doesn't quit on the play. Underrated, IMO.

Won't Gray eventually outgrow S? I've seen a lot of OLB/Star positions mentioned for that guy.

Maybe Gray will outgrow safety, but some guy named Al wilson also came in at safety and ended up at MLB. That worked up pretty good, both in college and the NFL

my guy who coaches at Tucker said this kid loves UT, specifically Strip. The reason its down to UT vs SC in the end is because Boom is calling him the next Fowler from Fla now with the Jags. Meanwhile the coach told me he much reminds him of a smaller version of Kyle but is a speed rushing high motor guy who has to learn to use his hands and work on strength.

I still think if this kid wants to be a Vol, we make room. Even if we get Ray and Conliffe. After this past season, I'm talking all the quality, big bodied DL I can get.

Signing/Committing on NSD at 10 AM. Doing an OV to South Carolina this weekend. Still between UT and USC with TN having some momentum from his visit last weekend to TN. Interesting to see if USC can regain momentum this weekend.

When I posted this, I thought it might be a great sign for either Ray or Conliffe… Now, I am not so sure with the stuff that has been posted in the Conliffe thread. Hopefully, still a good sign for Ray.
