'17 NC DE Matthew Butler (UT Signee)

I agree, because Darrell Taylor is fast...but looking at the Vol snapchat Taylor is having trouble going up against Marcus Tatum. Having some kind of combination of Kongbo, Phillips, Taylor, Mixon, Austin Smith and perhaps Ray or Butler would be a pretty great lineup (at DE).

I forgot about smith! If he wouldn't have been injured he would have been a great edge rusher this past year! And all I think Taylor needs is just another offseason. Give him that and I think he excels next season. We also have Alexis Johnson at DT which I forgot.

This just in:

Butler suffered an extensive paper cut during a tutor session. Eyewitnesses reported seeing orange blood dripping from the cut. He is expected to make a 100% recovery from the wound by Christmas.

Edit:

Congrats Glicht, on your 10,000th post.

Completely missed my own milestone. Crap.

So are we thinking if he already has his mind made up that he's already picked Tennessee? Hope that's the case. This kid is a 4 star talent at DE or DT, whichever one he wants to play. I'm really curious though to see how Kyle Phillips and Kongbo perform in their natural DE positions next season. That's two guys that were both 5*'s by some services playing DE next season. I really think if they reach their potential that next years defensive line can be absolutely nasty!

I am not so certain that Kongbo moves back to DE. He may end up staying at DT.

Awe fully quiet today. Butler is supposed to make his announcement today, so is everyone holding their breath?

Nice.

Then we have doofus Woody Wommack with this response to his current rivals ranking...

He was fine during the week of practice at the Shrine Bowl and had a tackle in the game. I'm not in charge of his ranking but I think he's a high three-star and would be comfortable with him staying there.

From fort yesterday

I think he's a good player that could be used several different ways depending on how his body grows.

He's sneaky quick off the edge and has a nice bend to him. He also has some power, too. He played both DT (his junior year) and DE (his senior year) so he has some experience at both spots. I think it's more likely that he eventually grows into a tackle, but I'm not ruling out that he stays at end and is just a bigger DE.

I think he can be a productive player at Tennessee if he finds a role.

Top performer per the 247 scouts/analysts at the Shrine Bowl practices and game. Wouldn't surprise me at all of Wommack didn't do anything but watch the game. All-star games do nothing for me, personally.
