'17 OH WR Jaylen Harris (Ohio St. commit)

I forgot to add that Murphy runs a 4.50. I pulled the numbers from Scout and 247. If someone has better numbers I would like to see them.

Harris is clearly much faster than Fant. It seems to me that Butch would want to go with the faster and more highly ranked WR. Not downplaying what we currently have, it might just be a case of Butch not wanting the negative pub of pulling offers. Otherwise it just doesn't make sense.

I think it is ok to raise a question why we take one player over another. I would like to know why you think you know who we should take better than our coaching staff? You honestly come off as a star-gazer and nothing more than that. There have been some head-scratchers, for me, but I do trust our staff. You don't seem to, and I can't figure out why.

The staff may see that taking commits then dumping them to make room just isn't the way to go. It probably hurts as much or more than it helps in the grand scheme of things. It may be something they are learning this cycle. We'll see. So far VQ has hinted the LBs and WRs committed are safe as the staff likes the guys we got. Both groups being prime candidates discussed on this board as position groups likely to see some gitshirts. Maybe the gitshirts are something the staff is going to get away from. Or maybe they start handling them out tomorrow. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Good points. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. If we have a great year and the top 100 type recruits want in I don't see how you could turn them down.

I trust the staff but you have to admit that the recruiting approach is quite different this year. I really am questioning the approach more than anything.

It's definitely been a different approach. Filling up before the end of July is new for sure. I figured it would play out one of two ways. We would see a huge amount of gitshirts or the staff would sign the guys they took commitments from. I'm starting to think the big shake up to the class and adding a bunch of "higher rated" guys may not be happening. What you see is what you get. A spot for Smith obviously. If Wade wants in the Kicker blue shirts. If Wade stays north, Kicker signs. We'll see.

You're missing the biggest issue. On one hand you say you trust the staff, yet in the same vein you are questioning the staff's approach. My question is this, why would you question the staffs approach if there wasnt some mistrust? Obviously you dont trust the staffs ability to evaluate talent.

Filling up the summer before NSD, isnt that what teams are supposed to do Leb? I mean you have stated repeatedly in the past that coaches should have their next class completely full by the summer before and focus on the nect year.

So according to you, Butch shoukd be done with the 2017 class by now and be focused solely on the 2018 class.

That is possible. It is my opinion that there is a strong correlation between recruiting rankings and success in coll.... Usually, if not always, teams with the top ranked classes are the ones winning championships.

I contend that, to some degree, you have your causality backwards. If Clemson was losing, would Tee have gone there? I think the success on the field drives where the "popular" recruits go. Didferences between the #1 class and the #20 may be notable. But between the #4 class and the #9 class? Not so much.

We have some commits that aren't SEC champion caliber. Period.

It'll be stupid to turn away guys that are clearly more talented than guys we have in place. As much as a lot of posters bemoan "stargazing", a lot goes into those evaluations, and they're not meaningless.

Not SEC championship caliber huh? You mean like Josh Smith when he committed? Everyone was saying he wasn't SEC caliber.

If you're good at evals, sure you can take your commitments and fill up over the summer. Of course then IMO you need to honor those commitments. We haven't seen this staff do that yet. Maybe they do this year. We'll see. I will say we have commits today I would not have taken in June. In reality not at all. If Butch thinks he can evaluate well enough to take classes in the 14-20 range and win SEC titles, lets see it. History says he won't.

Posts like the one you quoted are laughable. There are some on here that are good at evaluating talent. I'm not. If I think a recruit looks solid I'll say it but it is t based on my skill as a scout. If I don't think a recruit looks like an SEC caliber recruit I try to keep my mouth shut because I know that I don't really know squat. More people should consider that before posting disparaging remarks about recruits specifically or in general about our class.

All these points are just a few of the reasons as to why you are not a college football coach.

Way to go there glich! Thanks buddy!

Same here. Not what I was expecting coming off a pretty good year with an impressive bowl win. We'll see what happens over the next few months

Why, it's comedy gold. I don't tell Jimmy Fallon to shut up during his comedy routine. I just listen and laugh. Either laugh at him (his ignorance brings laughter to my day so I appreciate it) or just put him on ignore. Those are really the only two viable options. Conversing with him is about like slamming your head into a brick wall, it's a lose-lose proposition.

Watching someone run head first into a brick wall beings me laughter. TIFWIW
