It sounds like you're trying to apologize for Butch when you say this.

Don't look at rankings, look at offer lists. Based on that, everyone should be mostly satisfied with yesterday.

No, not apologizing just addressing the star gazers.

Why is this guy a three star? Hes a freak!

Apparently ranking sites haven't been able to see him in person yet but Barton and Bartow on 247 think this was a big time pickup from film and things they have heard from college coaches and has chance to go up once analyst see him in person.

I think the services have far more false negatives (low ranked players that ball) than false positives (high ranked players that don't). If you were able to consistently find those, you'd have a gold mine of capable players that aren't as hard to recruit. Perhaps that's what BobW's focus is.

Not when you have another whole year of film to assess. I dont give much credence to rankings but they should become more accurate after their high school career is over.

Of course they will become even more accurate.
Still, most that begin their senior years highly ranked end it highly ranked. Most 3 stars remain 3 stars.

National champions tend to have highly ranked classes.

True there arent many downgrades, there a few more upgrades. Regardless i like the haul yesterday but see the class as very fluid right now. I see a top 10 finish and if you develop that talent you are in play for a national championship.

People are right to be uneasy. Clemson, Bama, Ohio State were all teams loaded with Top 100 talent.

We will get some as well. These recruiting services, arent worthless, they have value. But coaching evaluations are more accurate, because of the team FIT.

We have to get talented coachable guys that fit what we do.

From the service's perspective, it's pretty easy to identify quality players. Much harder to identify those with unrealized potential, especially those from poor programs. Much of the evaluation comes in game, where 21 other guys on the field affect the evaluation. A coach knows what he wants and can determine far more in person than a service evaluator looking at tape. Your last point is key, and I trust a coach to do that more than a service.

I agree with the view that you need to be landing a lot of 4 and 5 stars to have a shot at a national title. Auburn's 2010 was the lowest rated team from an average recruiting star perspective to win a title, and I believe it was pretty similar to our team this year (i.e., around a 14 or so average class ranking in the preceding four years).

Said differently, and to provide perspective, if Tennessee wins a national title this year, our team would be one of the least talented to ever do so.

But in the end, it's too early in the process to worry this year. We've had a ton of 4 and 5 stars coming to campus this summer - we are in on more elite talent at this point in the cycle than I can remember. I'd be willing to bet we finish very well

Yep. With the staff's killer evaluation ability along with the other offers from schools, I choose to believe that these kids are usually underrated from the services. Time and time again, I've been proven wrong in terms of star power, so I trust the coaching staff
