The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Stevens said he decided to reopen his recruitment Nov. 24 because of the uncertainty that surrounded LSU coach Les Miles at the time. But even with Miles still at LSU, he said hes now taking his time making a final decision.
I didnt know what (Miles) was going to do, Stevens said. I know everybody says, Hey, you go there for the school. I looked at the school. I loved it. But Les Miles is such a good coach. He has good assistants in (defensive backs coach) Corey Raymond and people like that, and I didnt know if they were going to be there."
"But then, on the opposite side and this was the reason that was keeping me from doing it again is that I didnt get my time to look at other schools. I didnt get the time to look at UT see, thats home. I didnt get my time to look at Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Clemson. I didnt get my time to go out and look at all those places. So, now, me being back here and kind of evaluating things gives myself the time to make the perfect decision for me.
A recent phone conversation with Tennessee coach Butch Jones assured Stevens that the home-state Vols plan to make him a high priority. He said Jones told him about his fence that he has put up on Tennessee, where he doesnt want anybody thats good in Tennessee going out.
He tells me every time hes going to recruit me hard, and he wants me here bad, Stevens said. I love that, saying that he values me that much. But, again, Ive got to make my perfect decision.
What they did to Northwestern was a really big deal, Stevens said. One, I like to see my hometown guys do great Jalen Hurd, Josh Malone, Jauan (Jennings) and Jack Jones, how theyre doing over there. I like to see that theyre being successful. Them coming back with the hometown is great.
