'17 TN ATH Maleik Gray (UT signee)

I'm not sure why you quoted me on this. I was just answering a question about what happened to Columbia after having a period of success. Wasn't trying to give you a starting point to advance your agenda.

I hv no agenda at all ppl don't want to accept they beat the hell out of a sorry tm and he puts up mega numbers. Don't know their schedule but if they play a real Rutherford County school other than Smyrna he'll disappear again. Neve shows up in big games. And Butchna no time for crap like that.

We all understand what you're trying to say. We just wish you'd shut the hell up about it at this point. I like a lot of what you bring to this board but you piling on this kid is ridiculous.

They were stacked with talent (relatively speaking) for about a 4-5 year window. Put a lot of kids into D3 and D2 football programs, a couple into FCS schools, one into the ACC (now in the NFL), and one to UGA.

But Maury County just doesn't have the population to keep a 5A team on top year in and year out unless there's a truly great coach involved. And most of the money in TN HS football coaching is not found in Maury County, that's for sure.

They'll likely be down for a 3-5 year period before they're able to field a team talented enough to reach their old heights again.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I've been away from Maury County for a bit so I've lost track of how the local teams are doing. Columbia is in a tight spot with zoning since a lot of Maury County kids go to Spring Hill. Then if there's a good athlete straddling the Maury/Williamson line I'm sure they would want to go to Independence. I hope Central gets things going again. Dre Hall is another kid from there that probably could have played D1, he's the leading receiver at UNA.

Sorry for the derail. Gray reminds me a lot of JRM. I think he redshirts and puts on weight to play outside linebacker. Hopefully he develops or already has the physicality to play there.

It doesn't help central that there are 6 different high schools in the county. Lots of talent in Maury county just to spread out

I can't believe all those big time schools like UT and FSU didn't ask De1 for his scouting report of Gray before they offered him.

The nerve of some schools.....

Maybe they asked him and couldn't understand his written report?

Yep this is another part of the problem that has hurt Columbia, IMO. Kids have a lot more opportunities to find an alternative school now if they're looking for one than in years past and the northern part of the county closer to the Williamson county line has grown and developed much more quickly than Columbia proper over the past 5-10 years.

As for Hall, I'm really happy to see him teraring it up. I'm not sure if he could have made it to a P5 or G5 school, but I definitely think he could have at least made it in at an FCS school like UTC or TTU.
