good luck kid...

best in state class in how many years. and the flagship school gets a kicker?! wth?

First off, would you not complain when our kicker misses fgs costing game(s) and that our kickoffs giving opposing team great field position.

Second, what more could he do to earn a scholarship?

I swore I saw headlines "5 star kicker." Florida fans were going on about how they got a 5 star kicker

very few of them grew up liking the Vols

So? Does that mean we're not going to get them?

Also, I don't follow the logic from the post that was quoted that because it's a great in-state class, we shouldn't take a kicker... If he is a great kicker - take him... geez.

There has never, ever been a 5star kicker and you seem like a guy that consistently has a lot to say about recruiting and am surprised even thought that.

Just explaining to him why the in-state kids aren't already on board.

There are different sites that rank specialists. That's probably what that's in reference to. I think kohls is a big one

Oh I saw it now. Chris Sailer scouting service has him as a five star kicker. Hilarious. I'm sure he's good but that Wilhoit ranking of 4 star was the first time I've seen a kicker over 3 stars.

Glad to see a kicker come in. Would rather have the next one come in a year early before we need him than to have to recruit talent from the frat houses.

You would know we have troubles if Butch has binoculars on the ATC rooftop watching the intramural fields.

Please don't be that ignorant football fan that complains about a full scholarship kicker. We're talking about a whole different season if we had Roberto Aguayo vs Medley last season, it matters. All of the college football blue bloods offer specialists every 4 years. They space it well enough where the kid can redshirt a year then play for 4 years. Also, there is a difference between being ranked a 5 star kicker by a specialist training coach than being ranked a 5 star football player by scouting services.

and sometimes more often if one turns out to be a bust.

Not to hijack a thread... but I found these comments on the SDS article about his commitment to us hilarious:

OM Fan: "How the hell did southern miss have a commit from a kicker who could have went to any school he wanted to."

USC Fan: "Probably the same way Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss landed that recruiting class in 2013. Because when people think of an amazing, multicultural, superior educational experience with a dominant football history, they think Mississippi is where it’s at. That’s called sarcasm for those with a degree from Ole Miss."

Very few? 3 or 4 out of the top 15 in-state kids not liking the Vols is hardly "very few grew up liking the Vols." More than usual, probably, but not to far from the norm. We will get ours.
