'17 TN RB/CB Chase Hayden (Arkansas commit)

Coaches seem to be doubling down on Chandler and Akers. High risk, high reward.

UT's RB recruitment was... interesting... last year, too.

Coaches realize how much they have on their side with RB recruiting this cycle. Going to put up huge rushing numbers this season. Both our RBs will be talked about alot by the national media. Hurd will probably be in Heisman discussions most of the season. Oh yeah, and both of those RBs will leave after this season. I mean everything is there for them to be able to sign a big time RB.

If he's giving serious consideration to Mizzou and SC, then I think it's pretty obvious we've passed on him. Seems like a legit prospect, so maybe we're missing something.

Yes, everything is there to sign a big time RB. But we need two, and many of the top prospects are already committed. If we don't get Akers and Chandler-- or only one of them-- the best available might be Williams (50/50 with Auburn) or Hayden, who will be committing elsewhere in the next few weeks.

I get the feeling that the staff doesn't view Hayden as an every down back. He probably has a similar style as CFA as they are very close in size.

My guess is they are looking for 2 backs who can not only shake but also break tackles. I haven't seen Coleman's tape, but I have seen people say he can break tackles, and he is 30-40 pounds heavier than Hayden.

It appears that Kelly, Coleman, and (either Chandler/Akers) will play the Hurd role, and CFA would play a Kamara type role. Just what it appears to me.

Yep. Coaches have said they'd like 2-3 RBs this class, but we'll probably settle for two. Chandler's our guy, IMO.

Ummm....we already have 1 comitted. Only need 1 out of Akers or Chandler.

Received a CB to Arkansas this morning from the Arkansas 247 insider. Also, St. George's does not play good competition in the area. Here's last year's schedule: St. George's Independent School: Football - Varsity. Not saying that is why UT is not pursuing Hayden, but I saw some chatter about competition on the last page, so I wanted to clear up any confusion on the level of Hayden's competition.

If he wants to be a Vol he will be given the opportunity to play RB if he signs at UT, but clearly he is NOT UT's first, second or third choice in this class for a RB. I'm sure that really bugs him and his father too.

How do you know what bugs Chase or his father? My dad works for the railroad but they have never offered me a job. Do you think that bugs us?

No offense, but maybe the railroad folks don't want you because of your father.

I have heard AH interviewed on the radio on more than one occasion and he and Chase are both big Vol fans, but he makes it clear that Chase will go to the place that is his best opportunity to play. It could be UT or it could be elsewhere.

I have considered the first comment. Dad can be.... a strong personality. Especially when you tick him off. LOL.

I have no doubt that Aaron and Chase are both huge VFLs and I would never question that. Butch is not one to alienate VFLs by not recruiting their kids. However, if they aren't the best fit or there are better players Butch will do what is best for the football program. I hope Chase has a very productive and fruitful college career wherever he goes to school.

I'd think Hayden would fit in that Kamara role. RB and slot. Losing Nixon might open the door for the staff to reconnect before its too late. At least I hope they do.

JMO, but I don't think you need to get a "Kamara-like" back in every class. It pays to have a versatile running back group as a team that complement each other, and I think we got our "Kamara-like" role in this last class with CFA. He and Hayden are extremely similar, and I think CFA is faster. Hopefully we get a do-it-all back in one of Chandler or Akers, and we've got a potential bruiser in Coleman that could fill a nice role in the future that will complement Kelly & Fils-Aime. Again, JMOGBO.

I used the Kamara-like reference as I've read Chase prefers RB. I do think UT would use him more in the slot, but he could see carries as well depending on how the roster fills out. I'd just like to see another Hayden in Orange.

The 5-foot-10, 189-pound Hayden, who's the son of former Tennessee running back Aaron Hayden, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds and was timed at 4.02 seconds in the agility shuttle. He also recorded a 41.1-inch vertical jump and a 43-foot power-ball toss, finishing with a 137.22 Nike Football Rating.

Coleman, Hayden, and Chandler at RB.

No QB.

If LSU grabs Coleman,

Take Copeland at QB.

Butch, glad I could help.

We'd have a much less talented roster if Butch had listened to you over the years. Remember when we were only taking 12 in 2015?

"Joc Bruce and Vincent Perry are SEC backs and will split carries!"
