'17 TN RB/CB Chase Hayden (Arkansas commit)

I was at the game. Trinity is young this year. I saw Richardson as a junior run all over a good Trinity team last year in the state semi-finals. Chase is good but not great. Richardson is way better by a lot. If we were wanting a RB out of Memphis Richardson is who I wished we could get. Dang you Clemson! Good luck to Chase in Fayetteville.

Chandler is way better than Richardson. Coaches question his speed and quickness at the SEC level.

If Butch didn't take a highly rated legacy there is a reason. Book it.

You're probably right, but its hard to imagine what that might be. We've taken a lot worse prospects during CBJ's tenure. This guy's Dad was and still is all-VOL. He's at a position of need. Highly ranked. Produces in HS. Arkansas knows a little about RB's and they want him?

I'm not seeing the down side of including him in the class. Allow him the chance to develop as a VOL. If things don't pan out then help him find a place where he can contribute in 3 years.

I'm not a coach and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn express last night so I'll remain confused on this one.

All I know is Butch has gone hard after highly rated legacies every year since he has been here. He gets paid a lot of money to make these decisions so if he is passing on this one then I guess we will just have to hold on and enjoy the ride. Even if we do have the confused.

there is confusion here. Some claim we didn't recruit him. We did. He just didn't want the unknown and likely move to slot by being recruited as an athlete. TN would have took him as an athlete but he wants to be a RB. Our staff has always clearly had Akers and Chandler as their dream combo. They are halfway to fulfilling that. I think that's a win/win for both sides. Hayden goes to a great system for his ability. TN has what I currently think is 2 outstanding fits for system with eyes set on a 3rd monster in Akers.

Excellent post. If I remember correctly, both Aaron and Chase remain VFLs but, like you said in your post, it just wasn't the best fit with UT wanting to take him as an ATH. I wish nothing but the best for Chase and the Hayden family.

No offense, but maybe the railroad folks don't want you because of your father.

I have heard AH interviewed on the radio on more than one occasion and he and Chase are both big Vol fans, but he makes it clear that Chase will go to the place that is his best opportunity to play. It could be UT or it could be elsewhere.

:bump3:

Here is where I read about Aaron and Chase both being Vol fans. Just wasn't meant to be I guess.

He should have been given the Jennings treatment then IMHO! This would have been my pitch;

"Your dad was all-VOL and you're part of the VOL family. C'mon in and compete for whatever position you want. We're all about competition here. If you're the best RB, then you will absolutely play RB. If you're not the best RB, then we will try to find a way for you to contribute until you develop into the best RB. We believe completely in your athletic talents and you are only limited by your decisions and how hard you're willing to work!"

Hard to find a negative with this IMO.

As fans we get to say yea or nay...we don't get fired either way. :hmm:

you think Arkansas is a great fit for his skill set? I really dont.

How hard did he go after Jalen McCleskey who is looking like a solid player at OK State?

They didn't. I am glad Jalen is doing well. I don't know why they didn't recruit him harder. My point was, if there is a legacy that Butch feels fits the system in the right position he goes and gets them. I don't know why he doesn't go after certain legacies though. Butch is a heck of a lot smarter than me though.
