'17 TN RB/CB Chase Hayden (Arkansas commit)

They didn't. I am glad Jalen is doing well. I don't know why they didn't recruit him harder. My point was, if there is a legacy that Butch feels fits the system in the right position he goes and gets them. I don't know why he doesn't go after certain legacies though. Butch is a heck of a lot smarter than me though.

Every question we have ever had, he asked and answered and went to the next one...before we even formed the first one.

Channeling the ghost of Yogi Berra. :)

Announced he is visiting Michigan and the recruiting guys said Arkansas "no longer considers him a commitment"

Not sure whether that means he decommitted himself or Bielema just didn't want him taking it

Do we take another RB not named Cam Akers in this class and what does the short list look like if we do?

Crunch just opened his eyes and lifted the lid on his baby sheep velvet lined coffin of the finest mahogany.

We see him as a slot guy not RB

All I know is, if he is good enough for Michigan and Arkansas, he is good enough for Tennessee!!!

Imo, if a guy is even 50/50 if you take him, just being instate player would tip the scales in favor of taking him, not to mention adding a former Vol's son.

Hate it for him, but Butch has proven he knows how to recruit. It appears we did not view him as a RB, and he doesn't play great competition in high school. I would be very surprised if Michigan takes him.

Again this is just my opinion, but I do not care what his competition is, because he can not help that.

I look at it this way... if you plugged a "5 star" in his place at Rb, would they perform the same?

He actually can help that. He goes to a private school that plays lower competition. He could attend another private school like MUS or CBHS that plays better competition.

It is something that matters. Does it mean he won't be good in college? No. But I believe he benefits some from playing lower competition. I am the one who started this thread. His school is right down the street from me. Even though I haven't personally seen him play, I saw his highlights. I stated back when I started the thread that I wasn't sure how much we would really recruit him. I totally understand why the staff wouldn't recruit him as any every down RB. Just simple. I hate it because I want another Hayden at UT. But if we took all legacies, we would be doing a disservice to the kids and the program. We passed on Alvin Harper and JJ McClesky's kids as well. It happens.

I think that was maybe before Chase bulked up a good bit in recent months. I heard PFort back in the summer say that the staff was originally thinking he was too small to play RB but then were very surprised at how big he'd gotten by the time he committed to Arkansas. Perhaps now they'll take a second look. Hope this gets interesting.

Passing on JJ's boy may have been a mistake.
