'17 TN RB Cordarrian Richardson (Clemson commit)

Butch gets blasted for cutting guys he took early late. This year, he may not be doing that and just waiting it out and he gets blasted for that. Same people always blasting something. At some point, they are not real fans and you are a weak person who keeps falling for it and petting the cute little thing that purrs before he changes and bites your finger off for no reason. No true UT fan trashes the program like the Cat that I have ever seen.

Butch got blasted for taking lower ranked guys early, not highly ranked players. There's a big difference here.

I say it should have been 7-6, 8-5, and a double digit win team last yr. Lost alot of close games due to coaching imo. If CBJ cant make it to ATL this season then he aint good enough to be the Vols leader. I expect greatness and I haven't seen it yet

Pretty typical of some fans around here.

You're absolutely right and the public schools in Memphis don't even produce much SEC caliber football talent and when they do, the prospect often comes with academic eligibility concerns.

Except when they go to Clemson or Alabama or Oregon etc...

Vol or nah?

Addressing the issue of not having many in the fold in March. Plus, I think we have some guys higher on our board than Rogers and Patterson. We would've taken them for sure and would never day they were not a take. Even Patterson said they had not contacted him for two months earlier. It makes me think we did not push hard for either of these two and I will go into panic mode sometime later than the first week of March. But, you guys carry on with your puss kitty ways.

Sounded like usual doom and gloom to me

BTW losing Richardson isn't a huge loss especially w Chandler and Akers in the mix. Memphis may as well be in a different state being so far from Knoxville.

Memphis is a lot closer to Knoxville than it is to Clemson, South Carolina. Forget sour graping this one....it was a loss, plain and simple.

Not a loss if we get Cam Akers, and we get Ty Chandler. Right now it looks like we're in good shape with those two and Chase Hayden as well. I really never anticipated getting this kid, because I've been hearing more about Akers and Chandler lately. Don't say the sky is falling because we lost Richardson. The sky is falling if we lose Chandler, but if we get Chandler then I think we're perfectly fine.

And they usually get ranked a lot higher at the end and everybody jumps on them. Some end up top 100 kids like Christmas-Giles.

If you want the instate kids to value staying instate you can't skip years recruiting the state. Its just not going to work. Lots of high 3* and 4* TN kids were passed on or ignored altogether in the 2016 class. Thinking it wasn't going to play a negative role in future instate recruiting was naive. I think we are seeing it now.

Aaaaaand you're back on ignore Leb.

I profusely apologize for quoting him guys, and I promise it won't happen again.

As for all the rest of the doom and gloomers... It's the first week of March guys, calm the eff down. At this point, I look at commits this early as a guy basically announcing his leader publicly.

^This...and this date 3 years ago, we had ONE 3 star commit...turned out pretty good with Hurd and some spares. :)

Except for a very rare instance I don't think we should even expend any resources to recruit Memphis. Middle Tennessee, Atlanta, Carolinas, Virginia, Florida should be our main areas of concentration IMO. Just leave the hellhole that is Memphis alone unless you have that rare, very talented 4 or 5 star recruit who has a tie to the university or makes it known that he wants to play in Knoxville.

That's ridiculous! We are the mighty Vols! Butch leaves no stone un-turned in any city throughout the land. See Kongbo:eek:k:

No. Clemson is just not at the disadvantage they should be vs the state school. The kids don't feel UT is recruiting TN talent like the state school should be EVERY year. Clemson is playing for titles. UT isn't, yet. I think UTs staff ignoring recruiting instate like they did in 2016 just eliminates the slight advantage(being the state school) they had going forward. I've said it before. It's tough to sell, "stay home and play for the state school", when the UT coaches were nowhere to be found during the previous class. Some say it's irrelevant. Recruiting currently sure doesn't look like recruits feel it's irrelevant.

So we should've gone after more Tennessee recruits in 2016 that we did not want, and push kids from other states out that we did want, in order to have a "slight advantage" in 2017?

Now when you say it like THAT, it sounds like a convoluted stretch. :)

Like others have said, if we get chandler and Akers then this one doesn't sting as much but we need to get 2-3 running backs this cycle with one being an instant impact type guy.

It may sound crazy but, I was never impressed by Richardson. His team play inferior competition in class 2A.

Sour grapes, outta your mind... They don't play all 2A bro get your facts right.. I'm shocked oh well, I knew HJ and him was buddies I guess he got thru to him..

Define good chance? Tn is not the fav for either ATM. No one is picking Tn to land either right now. Chandler just said on 247 that AU led and he is an OM legacy, CB are heavy to OM as well. Not saying can't get either or both, just don't understand the confidence here.

I agree with him. Cordarrian is an good back, but he's playing on a 4A football team against 2A teams.

Not nearly as impressive as Hurd tearing up 5A competition week in, week out.

Ty Chandler is playing against good competition and putting up great numbers. That's the type of player I want.

No, it's not ridiculous. Kongbo ain't from Memphis Chief.

Perhaps you don't have the necessary knowledge of recruiting, and Memphis recruiting in particular to see it. Do a little homework first. We have much better, reliable, fruitful ...... and less "sketchy" recruiting areas than Memphis. We could have top 5 recruiting classes for the next 20 years and literally never take one player from Memphis.

Like I said, unless there is a rare, special player who has legitimate interest in playing for the Vols, like a Richmond or potentially as Chase Hayden....UT should put its time and resources elsewhere, where they are much more likely to pay dividends.
