'17 TN TE LaTrell Bumphus (UT signee)

Three-star defensive end LaTrell Bumphus of Hardin County High School in Savannah, Tenn., attended the camp and worked out as a tight end. The 6-foot-3.5, 230-pound Bumphus put together a solid showing at tight end, and while Bumphus remains interested in playing tight end, sources have indicated that Tennessee still views him as a likely defensive end. Regardless, he’s still high on the Vols, and he remains one of their top in-state targets after Sunday’s camp. There’s still at least a chance he could show up at Tennessee’s camp Wednesday at University School of Jackson, too.

He has a huge ceiling at DE. I love his potential there. I'd probably have him as the #2 or #3 overall prospect in the state this year (along with Higgins and Smith).

Ahead of JaCoby? That's high praise. Good to hear.

Yes. I'd have him in the 4-7 range with Gray, Eze, Chandler... Stephens is a big-time athlete, but I think it is a legit question as to where he really projects at the next level. I just love Bumphus. I think he's an elite player in this class.

Jacoby is #1 in America because he can play 2 positions at a dominant level. There's no way any other player in the state is better than him. He's considered an elite wr on the next level and an elite S either strong or free. Now on Bump he's freakish too. The thing is he has question marks too. When at NPA I have seen him make crazy plays at TE and seen him whoop guys at DE. I can see him doing both but TE could be his money spot. Meanwhile Jacoby I can see doing either and being elite. So I'm not sure what you're basing your eval on. Also Trey Smith is more 4-7 than Jacoby.

cncchris33 how would he be above Jacoby if he said #2 or #3 when Jacoby is #1. Last I checked #1 is the highest you can be

I read it to mean that he thought that Higgins or Smith were 1 and 2 in his opinion, and he'd have Bumphus as 2 or 3, up there alongside those two guys. In that sense, Stevens received no mention, which I took to mean that he wasn't as high on Stevens. This was confirmed in his next post...

Thanks for the thinly-veiled sarcasm though.

Probably on, like, his opinion.

MH made it clear on his reasoning. Jacoby is definitely the best athlete in the state for the reasons you've stated... But he isn't on Higgins level as a WR. I'm assuming, but it seems that MH was basing his personal rankings on college projection at a specific position.

With that in mind, Higgins at WR is higher rated than Jacoby at S.... IMO.
