'17 TN TE LaTrell Bumphus (UT signee)

If DEConnelly's assessment of Bumphus is anywhere close, then its easy to envision him as a Vereen type DE talent, except Bumphus is a bit larger than Vereen was coming out of HS. I'm no great talent scout, but all the things I've seen concerning Bumphus leaves me very optimistic that he can become a really good player somewhere at UT.

That last comment about him being a really good player somewhere at Tennessee made me think about the types of players this staff loves to recruit. They love to recruit players who can play multiple positions, even on the offensive line. It is a great thing, because it's almost like you have more than the 85 man limit on the roster. If a player is buried on the depth chart at one position, then he has the versatility to change to a different position where he might excel. I think that is part of their recruiting profile for most of the players that they are after.

To clear up a lot of confusion, UT gave him the decision of playing TE or DE, and I believe that is the reason why he went ahead and committed because he wants to play offense. DE is still a possibility but his primary position when he arrives on the hill will be at TE.

Come in and play TE for a week of camp and move to DE. I.E. Jennings situation.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Just wanted to ask you a question to see if you are hearing the same thing since you seem to be in the know. I am hearing from a couple sources that Bumphus is going to be transferring to Adamsville this year. Any truth to that?

Despite the interest he has continued to receive from Alabama and others, he said he’s still sold on Tennessee.

“I’m still solid — 100 percent,” Bumphus said.

“Tennessee has just always been a place I wanted to go, but I wanted to go weigh out all my other options because you never know. You might find somewhere else better that you want to go to. But Tennessee, out of all the visits, just felt like a place that I would want to be for the next four or five years.”

Bumphus said his next visit to Tennessee likely will be for one of its home games this season. He said he’s hoping to attend the Vols’ highly anticipated games against Florida and Alabama.

But he said he’s also interested in seeing games at Alabama, Ole Miss and Mississippi State — perhaps on official visits.

Sounds solid. Just making sure of his choice. Also said that besides us, Alabama is recruiting him the hardest.

Come on mom and dad, Shut these OVs down. Take the kid out for a steak close to home. OVs are a waste of time if you know where you're going. Shut it down.

Couldn't help but laugh looking at his offer list....right in the middle of all of these big time schools is a Murray State offer. Got to give them props for trying.
