'17 TN WR Princeton Fant (UT commit 6/18/16)

Dang son

You brought it strong

Physical monster, third best overall score at Nike weighing 215 lbs. Just needs to stay healthy. BTW, some services need to update his weight - I doubt he lost almost 30 pounds in a little over a month. :)

I'm going on record as saying this is going to be the steal of the class. Not enough stats for the industry to rank him high, like Gaulden, but he is a monster. I can't wait to see what he does this year.

Hopefully he can be that physical WR we've been missing since DaRick, and that will be the only comparison.

Good article on SEC Country about Fant.

Meet Tennessee WR commit Princeton Fant

JESSE SIMONTON

Princeton Fant was sold on Tennessee the very first time he ever visited Knoxville.

“It blew my mind,” the LaVergne (Tenn.) High School wideout said.

Then, when the 3-star receiver blew out his knee during a 7-on-7 practice before his junior season, coach Butch Jones’ loyalty truly sealed the deal.

Tennessee was the very first school to offer the freakish 6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect and the Volunteers “stuck with” Fant following his injury.

“Through the pain, through the ACL injury, even me kind of tweaking it again at UT camp, Coach Butch Jones was right there and stood over me and said, ‘We love you man. We still love you,’” Fant explained.

“That really meant a lot and pretty much [sold me] right there.”

In June, Fant, who has just nine career receptions but posted a 37-inch vertical and a 4.64-second 40-yard dash at a combine in May, was supposed to commit to Tennessee with LaVergne teammate Maleik Gray.

Instead, the 4-star safety beat him to the punch during an impromptu visit the weekend before.

A week later, Fant, the state’s 17th-ranked prospect, delivered Jones the good news at “Orange Carpet Weekend” with Gray in attendance.

“It feels great to stay home,” said Fant, who relishes the role of representing his state-school.

“I’m closer to my mom. She can come to my games and watch me. I loved Tennessee from the start. I’ve seen myself playing at Tennessee for a long time. It just feels great to know that I’m a Vol now.”

Five things to know

His relationship with Gray goes way back: “It’s always a competition between me and Maleik. This year we’re going to see who gets the most touchdowns, the most yards. Ever since middle school, grade school, even rec league. It’s always been a competition. Just like it is in practice now. He makes me better, and I get him better. That’s just our relationship.”

His mom has shutdown his recruitment: “I still hear from Ole Miss every now and then, but my mom pretty much made up her mind that I’m going to Tennessee. I’m loyal to my commitment.”

He’s got plenty of potential: “I can be a big-time player on the outside. I can develop into something scary. I know I can. As long as I put in the work, listen and be coachable. Coach told me how they’ll use me and that I’m a big part of the program, so I’m trying to focus and get my head in the game and continue to grind hard and be coachable.”

He’s working on reeling in some major Vols targets: “Me and Maleik, we were trying to get (receiver) Tee Higgins but you know he went to Clemson. We’re still trying to get (offensive lineman) Trey Smith and (running back) Cam Akers.”

He’s got some musical skills: “I like to play the drums. I’m pretty good. I play the drums in church at True Life Christian Ministry. I’ve been playing since I was a toddler.”

Seems like an outstanding young man who bleeds orange. Something i did notice when he was mentioning people they're recruiting, no Ty Chandler. Think that means he's a silent, we're not recruiting him anymore, or just wasn't mentioned with the two other in state recruits he mentioned?

He does. Like the comment about mom shutting things down for him.

I believe Chandler is a Vol. Just a matter of time. Might be our closer to NSD Boom.

It would be great if Ty was a silent but I think Fant just forgot to mention him. No doubt we are still recruiting him and are still in it as much as anyone.

I like what Simmons had to say about Fant. My only concern is that Fant has not been productive on the field. Hopefully he will ball out this year and get that extra star.

Princeton Fant, WR, Lavergne (Tenn.) High School - It's practically unheard of that a player with nine high school catches for 141 yards for his career can generate the kind of hype we've seen around Fant. But the second you see this kid walk in a room and see how athletic he is, you get it. At 6-2, 215 pounds, Fant posted a 37 inch vertical at The Opening Columbus along with a 4.2 shuttle and a 4.64 40. Those are scary numbers. Fant just has to stay healthy now, put together a productive senior year and if anything, make sure he doesn't get too big.

Fant is a raw prospect but a physical freak. He’s a thick-bodied receiver who can jump (37-inch vertical), run (4.6-second 40-yard dash) and cut on a dime (4.2-second shuttle). Despite missing his entire junior season, colleges, including Tennessee, country remained interested in the state’s 17th-ranked prospect with just 14 career catches.

Two months before he tore his ACL, Fant received his first scholarship offer from UT. During his arduous rehab, he garnered serious interest from Ole Miss, LSU, Kentucky, Miami and Louisville. Fant ultimately chose to stay in-state, citing coach Butch Jones’ loyal during the injury and recovery process as a major reason he committed to the Vols during ‘Orange Carpet Day’ in June.

Now that his knee feels strong, Fant aims to “knock (his) senior season out with a bang.”

“I’m going to come to Tennessee and do what I got to do to earn a starting position,” he said. “I can develop into something scary. I know I can.”

I've said before, I expect a big year from Fant, and rise in the rankings. I'm not sure how good his QB is, but if he can toss a little ball around the yard, I think Fant is going to blow people away.

I think he's a top 150 player... Just wait for it
