The above makes it sound like a new injury, not a previous one that did not properly heal.
This kid is in his own head a little bit.
Hes not played football at length since 2014...
In my opinion he should play, then red- shirt his first year UT. Here's why, Doctor's always are over cautious, yet even they are saying he can play. He can always get it cleaned up at UT.
His body needs to get used to cutting and such again.
OR, maybe he gets it cleaned up, it heals right this time, and he comes ready to play in the Fall.
In my opinion hes just trying to get out of LaVergne in one piece.

UT will honor his scholarship. I think it's a no-brainer that he gets his knee taken care of. If you don't, it's a huge risk. Who cares that much what he does in high school? His ability got him the scholarship already. Moreover, it's not like his rating is out of this world. I think it will stay where it is or get docked slightly due to the injury, but that won't hurt where we end up in the team recruiting rankings much at all.
Recommending a kid risk playing on a partially torn ACL is ridiculous. He is doing the smart thing but should actually not even play anymore games IMO. What matters about his future is TN not Lavernge. Why waste a year when you already have the scholarship and can be healthy to play for college
I know they'll honor his scholarship. UT probably told him indirectly to get his knee cleaned up...
Don't underestimate how actually playing the game helps with your growth as an athlete.
All he's been doing is personal training and flag football for almost 2 years now.
But if he needs the surgery then he does. I just find it odd that the doctors says he can still play.
You can have an injury that leaves you 90%. You can continue to do what you do at that 90% without risk of natural occurring further damage.
Or, you can have a minor procedure, returning to 100%.
Honestly, no offense meant- but what is, in anyway, hard to understand about this?
I have a damaged knee in the exact same circumstance. I could undergo a procedure that would repair it to 100% (for my age) but I'm no longer in athletic competition so it's not a concern for me.
Fant is in his early prime. Makes complete sense.
There's nothing hard to understand about it.
I simply offered another a view point.
No offense.
Oh, ok.
I just missed what the alternative actually was.
I only got "I find it odd".
In that 'how could Egyptians have built the pyramids without aliens' open speculation kind of comment.
So what is the alternative?
That he should play. Because he hasn't played and he can always get surgery after the season and have many months to heal.
He's not played a lot of football.
Fair enough.
I do feel the opposite though.
If it were my future, or one of my children, I would want this done as soon as possible.
We have the ability to redshirt now and he can make up for a pecentage of high school games.
As you said, he probably received the coaches input. The staff has no history of having people save themselves, so it seems to be a suggestion from very informed professionals on what is truly best for us and him.
Ftr, "no offense" was meant to honestly say that I wasn't trying to be rude but understand your point.
