So why weren't we in on more big time prospects before the start of last season? Explain that.....

BB, for me it's not just the offers, but how hard are the coaches working the kids to build a relationship once they are offered.

How hard did CRG go after Ricky Slade who's committed to PSU? How hard is Thig on Teradja Mitchell out of Virginia Beach who plays MLB? I know we offer and that an interest must be received, but I feel there should be more mention of us on the recruiting trail then there actually is. Why offer if you're not going all out to bring them into the fold? Not only get them to commit but keep them committed.

I agree with BB on this one. The kid is in our neighboring state, not Hawaii or something. Smh at Thig...he has worn out his welcome, and it's time to go.

You're being ridiculous. Area recruiters are recruiting whoever they are being told to. They don't pick and choose.

That they haven't offered? Come on breaker that's not how it works and you know it.

He's slacking in Bama man. It is what it is. Has nothing to do with just this kid. His players at his position aren't performing either. Look terribly prepared on gameday. And we aren't physical throughout the group.

I'm disappointed in Thig period..... As an overall coach he's not performing. IMO

BB, I appreciate what you bring, and I hope that we offer Coynis soon as it sounds like he is the real deal. What gets to me is though that you have been extremely critical of the staff for some time. I realize that we gagged away two games last year that we should not have. I think your credibility suffers a little when you continue to be so critical of the staff, especially with this kid.

How so with this kid? I want us to offer an elite D-lineman. I wanted him offered as a 3 star like Auburn, Alabama and Michigan did. You all can keep saying I'm being critical for wanting the best players at Tennessee. That's fine with me I don't care. And he's good whether I deal with him or not. He's going to beast out on the circuit and his stock will go even higher.

It's fine to say that you wish we would offer. No problem with that. It's fine to say that he is going to blow up and we should get in on him before he does so that he appreciates the early offer. I think the problem is that you point fingers at Thig (though I agree some of his lustre has worn off) and you use us not offering as an example that our coaching staff is not going to get it done.

Top Recruiter Rankings for 247 for the last 4 yrs

2014

Thig - 10th Gillespie - 28th Elder - 39th Strip 58th

2015

Strip - 15th Thig - 24th Gillespie - 43rd Elder 18th WMart - 61st Bakakian - 65th

2016

Thig - 34th Gillespie - 65th Azzani - 81st Scott - 84th (late addition)

2017

Gillespie - 37th Thig - 40th Mahoney - 77th Azzani - 87th

Thig has declined if you want to use that angle for an argument, but he has been the top or 2nd best recruiter on staff since he's been here.

By the way, Tee Martin was #2 in '14,#2 in '15, #1 in '16, #12 in '17 just for comparison. Probably dropped because he was the OC.

I know BB can rub some people the wrong way but I don't understand what's so bad about him stating this opinion? Plenty of people say much worse things on here daily. I don't have a problem at all with him questioning why our staff hasn't offered a kid that he sees as an elite talent.

Nothing is wrong with that. He has been super critical of this staff in the Recruiting football talk forum. Maybe my perception was a little off. I very much appreciate the evaluations he does on our DBs and I agree to some degree about Thig. We don't know the whole story. Maybe Thig wants to offer but has been told to wait. Who knows? I do want us to offer as I trust BB and his ability to evaluate talent and this kid does have some very strong offers rolling in.

Lack of offer could be because they don't have to leave the state for DL this year. Hard to say it's Thig's fault without knowing the whole story. It could be Welton or Shoop who don't want to pull the trigger

Yeah lets not offer any DL out of state because there are a few in state. Sounds like a great plan.

We're talking about the same staff who thought Jacob Phillips wasn't good enough to play for UT

This shows a couple of things:
1)Overall staff performance has declined. Is this a result of effort, misses on 4/5 *'s or Welton is not the be all end all that we hold him up to be (gasp)

2)Elder leaving was a loss and to date Scott has not made up the difference and doubt he will since he has OC duties now.

3) Thought recruiting was supposed to be Azzani's string suit, does not appear such.

4) Vols still need 2 more strong recruiters (imo) in addition to the recent hires

Seems like the ball is getting dropped somewhere, and not just with this recruit.

We've missed on a lot of 4/5* this past cycle, but can make up that difference in this class. One we have to garner the top instate talent because the pool of talent in the state is not perennially deep. That's why we need to get the top recruits annually.

Our staff isn't a strong recruiting staff. I feel they are more about teaching that recruiting. Scott pulled a few from Florida and got us Byrd his 1st year. Last season he helped with Reid and Johnson. Azzani hasn't really done anything recruiting-wise. Malone was Thig's recruit. Warren isn't a strong recruiter, and I can't account for Wells. Hoke is good on the trail and is personable. Hoping he can bring some heat and get in on some really good DT's for us.

Thig is supposed to be an overkill recruiter. That's the reputation on him I thought.
