'18 CA CB Olaijah Griffin (USC signee)

FTR, my #1 remaining WANT for this class.

Me too. Would be awesome for many reasons. 5 star from Cali with offers from everyone including USC, HUGE position of need/day 1 starter, public perception with a pickup like this would be as good as it gets, attracts other elite ballers, etc...

From SEC Country:

Olaijah Griffin, 5-star CB, Mission Viejo (Mission Viejo, Calif.)

There are several defensive back targets left on the board for Alabama heading into the final two weeks before National Signing Day. We touched on two 5-star cornerbacks on Monday and where the team believes it stands with them.

But there’s another 5-star cornerback who Tide fans should keep an eye on. That’s the nation’s No. 3 prospect at the position in Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School’s Olaijah Griffin, who is the son of legendary West Coast rapper Warren G.

Griffin de-committed from UCLA last month while in Orlando, Fla., for the Under Armour All-America Game. He named Tennessee as his top school after taking an official visit there in mid-December. Griffin is expected to be in Tuscaloosa this weekend before taking a trip to Auburn the weekend before National Signing Day.

It’s not clear where Griffin stands on the board as far as defensive back targets go because Alabama is firmly in the race for 5-star corners Patrick Surtain Jr., Tyson Campbell and Isaac Taylor-Stuart. In addition to those players, the team is recruiting 4-star safety Julius Irvin and 3-star cornerback Eddie Smith.

USC will win out

Kids like this almost always end up getting cold feet when it comes to going 3k miles across the country when they got a USC, Stanford, Oregon etc offer esp the highly rated ones that are getting a lot of attention

You guys may have more luck then us with them I’m not sure but I honestly wouldn’t care if UF never bothered with another Cali kid until they are at least back on top and have more pull nationally

Why would anybody choose the swamp over USC? especially if you live around the coast. Makes zero sense to leave the LA area for Gainesville.

Almost every highly touted WC 4&5* recruit says “hello” about visiting sec schools right before signing day.

My question is why would a recruit OV to three SEC schools if he is not open to playing away from the WC? I am not a PAC-10 basher. But with all due respect, the football culture and college experience here differ in ways which some recruits find attractive. It DOES happen.

Which is why I said UF shouldn’t waste their time on Cali kids until they are a powerhouse again

But there’s plenty of reasons for a Cali kid to go to any top football program like Clemson or Bama at the moment

Back in the 90’s QBs and WRs came from all over to play in UFs offense and put up big numbers

Urban pulled the #1 player in the country out of Cali once upon a time

At the moment tho it’s definitely a waste of time esp when there’s plenty of talent much closer to UF

Why not ask Ardoree’, Iman Marshall, Jack Jones, and countless others? SEC and Midwest kids also take officials to USC...even knowing USC is not a serious option. Our staff encourages recruits to take all their visits.
