'18 CA CB Olaijah Griffin (USC signee)

Why not ask Ardoree’, Iman Marshall, Jack Jones, and countless others? SEC and Midwest kids also take officials to USC...even knowing USC is not a serious option. Our staff encourages recruits to take all their visits.

I will not ask those folks because they are not involved in this discussion. You are, and you have made statements about Cali recruits visiting with SEC schools, so I asked you. If you have no answer, there is no harm in saying you don't know. The attraction of SEC schools to some Cali recruits seems real enough to me. One of my all time favorite Tennessee QBs is a Californian, Casey Clausen. That guy beat Alabama and Florida, on the road. He was an extraordinary player, really amazing to watch.

Easy answer -- free trip, VIP treatment, see a far-off part of the country. Taking the trip doesn't mean you're serious about the school. It does give the school a chance to present its program, though. Doesn't apply to all kids, but to some.

It can be like taking the free weekend trip where you have to sit through the time-share sales pressure, when you know you won't buy.

I really do not like your falsely comparing a Tennessee OV to a ___ ____ time share presentation. Sure, some recruits want to enjoy the process and see new places. But they are making serious decisions, and there is no doubt that Tennessee has a lot to offer them.

His head isn't. It appears to be mom more than anyone who wants him to stay out west.

Why just single out mom? His dad, and his world, grew up USC fans. Warren G's stepbrother - who he has collaborated with, Dr. Dre donated 70 million along with Jimmy Iovone to endow a music academy at USC. Ice Cube's oldest son graduated from USC Film School. So..dad and the people he grew up with, were connected in some way to USC. OG grew up a big USC fan.

People who were actually on campus during OG and his family during the USC official said he - not just his parents - had a great visit, enjoying himself. Our players seem to think he's ours.

He may chose Tennessee, who knows about 17-18 year old kid? His mom and dad will not hinder his choice, they've just made it clear that they hope he stays home.

How salty will you be if he goes here? I really want to find out.

Yeah that's how it's seemed to me. Everybody being very reasonable. I hope he chooses Tennessee though.

Coming to Tennessee is like a three-year NFL internship for DBs.

We do have some outstanding CB coaches. Pruitt coached CBs under Saban(who also coached CBs -- still does). Kelly also was an excellent CB coach at Florida State. I am talking about national championship defences. And Terry Fair was a great CB who played in the NFL, so he knows all the tricks.

Yeah, and Princess Trojan said they wouldn't hinder OG's decision to Head East. BUT, they wanted him to stay home!?! WTF does that mean? In my opinion, it means they want him to go to USC!

How is that hard to understand? Both statements are true. They want him at home. But they will be okay with him leaving. Not a difficult concept.

It must be tough on them letting him go.

He's a great player.

But he also seems to be a great young man, period...

I took it to mean that the parents made their preference known, without being demanding or overbearing. Does their stating a preference create a barrier to his freedom in making his own decision? Yes, to some degree it does. He might not want to disappoint them. But he is at that age when youngsters start making such decisions for their own lives, and parents need to respect that.

Why does a girl living by the beach in the land of fruits & nuts post on VolNation?

Just to let us poor dumb hillbillies know not to get our hopes up, for no SoCal kid could ever possibly want to go play for Tennessee over USC. I mean that is so magnanimous of her.
