'18 FL QB Michael Penix Jr.

“When I went up there last summer coach (Larry) Scott wasn't the OC (offensive coordinator), but he was a cool guy and I got to talk to him back then. He talked to me back then about how he felt about me. He's been real good,” Penix said. “With coach (Mike) Canales I talk to him almost everyday. I'm actually calling him when we get done talking.

“I like how he lays everything out. That he let's you know how it's going to be. It let's me know that they want me. We talk about stuff like what's my favorite play. He's always working to try and help me understand my reads and talks football to me, so that I'm ready for the next level. It's really good.”

“I haven't been talking to Florida State too much. I talk to them when I can. We have a good connection and bond. I talk to coach (Lawrence) Dawsey. It's been good. I'm talking to Oregon and coach Kelly. I talk to South Florida a good bit and obviously Tennessee.

“I'm just trying to enjoy the recruiting process right now. I'm open to anybody right now. I don't have anyone leading or anything right now. I just want to stay open and see all the options that I have to make sure I'm making the right choice.”

“Education is first. After that, I want it to feel like it's home,” Penix offered. “I want to go to a place where I'm going to be treated well and under the right coaches." “Right now, I'm working on getting bigger. I'm trying to gain some weight. I'm working on reading defenses and coverages so have a better understanding of what defenses are trying to do,” Penix said.

Go take a chill pill, Tony.

There is no way to please everyone. Last year we took commitments and people complained that they were rated to low. This year Butch is being more selective and the coaches have apparently stopped recruiting because some kids have committed elsewhere. It really is funny to watch all the hand wringing.

How come you are guessing I'm not reading them? I know several recruits are looking at us & we're looking at them. But, in the meantime we have some pretty good recruits that we are recruiting that have committed elsewhere. happens every year? this year at least we are avoiding the decommit and commit to Clemson plague

That's all I was saying. You all go crazy over my post when some of it is opinion & some of it is reality whether you all want to face it or not. How many other P5 schools only have 2 recruits committed at this point? 3 in the Top 50, including Georgia and UNC, all ranked below us. How many P5 have a 5*? 8, bama doesn't even have a 5*. 21 of the schools ranked higher than us have only 1 4 star like us or none. only USC and Ohio State have a higher average than us

Check that out & that will tell you all you need to know about the recruiting situation guys. We are behind the 8 ball & you all either just want to disagree with me or blind & don't see the writing on the wall. better than filling up and people thinking we don't have room for the stars at the end of the year. remember than AL DE last year? and some of the other guys we "passed on" because we are full up. seriously there is no pleasing some people.

Like I said, hopefully we get a commitment party from about 3-5 recruits in a 2-3 day span coming up here soon but it can't be keeping on going like this or we will be left with spare parts heading into the fall. I'm just saying what I feel & the proof is in the pudding guys. Orange and White Game, calm down. How many of last years signees were committed at this point? I am going to go with 1 or 2. what big time guys have we ""lost" out on? most instate guys are still uncommited (anywhere) andI haven't seen any big time out of state guys we were really battling for and didn't get.

I'm hoping recruiting picks up very soon for us before it's too late for us to get in on some of the big dogs. That's what I'm trying to say or get across. How much of this is the recruits & how much of this is our coaching staff not recruiting hard enough? Thanks.

This last paragraph is where I think you don't read your own posts. How many guys have said they have loved Wells. the Big 3 DTs all talk about hearing from Hoke all the dang time. Beard called up AT the day he was hired. all we heard on Teague was that we weren't recruiting him (hearsay), until he says we are the school recruiting him the hardest. We couldn't buy the time of day with Wray and since Wells he is considering us. Warren has got us in on some CBs too. guys are waiting, Kellogg apparently got put in a holding pattern by the coaches after he announced he was going to commit. Its recruiting, they are teenagers and they are being drug all over the place by family members, coaches, boosters, hs coaches, hometown/state loyalities, etc. its not cut and dry and a video game.

seems to me you don't have the disposition to survive the recruiting year. Calm down and realize these are teenage boys who honestly probably don't know what they even want. how many players these days leave their schools of choice?

Listen, I have said what I wanted to say ok except for repeating one thing. How many P5 schools have just 2 recruits committed to this point? Answer that & then you will see or think a little bit more of what I'm trying to get at.

I'm not in panic mode no but we should have more committed recruits by now. I'm done so say whatever you want from now on. I've made my point & opinion plus compared them with facts from other P5 schools. I'm not posting to argue with you.

I would like to have a nice discussion but members start their bashing at me when I give an opinion or even prove a point they don't like to see.

By the way, don't accuse me of being another one of those negavols either. I'm a VFL & will be forever. Have been a Vol fan for well over 40 years. Just giving my opinion based on fact & some things on my own. Thanks.

like I said before there are 3 other P5 programs in the top 50 rankings with only 2 recruits, UGA and UNC being two of them. There are 14 total P5 programs with 2 recruits, and we are ranked the highest amongst them.

a fair number, between 5-10, of the schools ranked above us only have 3. If we added the low number you want to our class, 3, we would have more recruits than Bama, Auburn, Michigan, Florida and some others. so I don't see as way far behind and trailing.

If we added Litaker, Kellog and Lane, all three do-able, and not super highly ranked we would move up to number 16. and be the third highest SEC school. with such reasonable and low expectations able to make such a huge difference I don't see it as such as big deal to be ranked where we are.

*edit* looked it up. zero of the guys who signed with us were committed before the O&W game last year.

Negavols are VFL too, btw. Just more demanding than others.

Butch is doing fine. You want 15 three star recruits? Let him be more selective

That's what I'm concerned about happening again & getting us another not so good class. I want & we need a top 10 class for sure in 2018. Thanks.

Lulz....people get mad when we load up on recruits in the spring....and then we only have two so far this year that are highly rated....and people still getting mad.

Damned if you do....Damned if you dont.

I know im taking the bait but a top 10 class is not made in April. Stop the insanity until after the o&w game at least. These kids are still juniors in high school for crying out loud.

I'm not mad. I'm just concerned. There's a difference. Here's why I'm mainly concerned. This is allowing some of the 4* & 5* recruits that we have offered get away. There's a few that already have.

They were probably never coming to UT anyhow but we can't continue to see this happen through the summer without grabbing/getting a few of them or we're screwed in terms of having a solid class like a top 10 one.

We must get at least 3-5 top notch recruits to commit to us by the end of the summer before fall practice begins. CBJ might be playing it to where he knows he has certain ones locked down & will wait until NSD 2018 to get a bunch to commit.

I think those chances are small but could be the case. Trying a different route than he did for the 2017 class possibly. I hope something like that's going on. We certainly do have quite a few recruits that personally themselves have said they're interested in UT.

It might start to come in bunches like an avalanche & that would be nice but I hope it's way more 4* & 5* recruits than the 3*'s we got last class. Thanks.

For someone that almost exclusively posts about recruiting, you don' really seem to know how it works.

I thought you were smarter than that...I'm really disappointed in you.

For someone that almost exclusively posts about recruiting, you don' really seem to know how it works.

I know how it works & it doesn't work the same every year either for all schools/coaches. It's a process no matter how you look at it but if you're a VFL & not concerned that only 2 recruits have committed here on what's now April 5th is surprising to me.

I know perfectly well how recruits change their minds & are unpredictable at their ages. I get all of that. I really really do. It's just shocking to me to have so many recruits talking so great about us & their visits but not a single one of them has said I want to commit to UT now.

Some have even made 3-4 visits already. It's most certainly not like 2017 recruiting went for sure. Not even close. Let's just hope what we do end up getting isn't leftovers & a bunch of 3* recruits again.

I'm telling you guys. I'm no expert like the guys that work for the recruiting services & never have claimed to be either but I know more than you all think & act like I do.

There's already been quite a few 5* recruits committed to other schools that we had also offered so for members/people to act like this is some walk in the park at this point is fooling themselves. We have an awful lot of work to do from here until NSD 2018.

I hope the ones of you saying wait until the O&W game to see the commitments start coming in is true but why wait until then? Hopefully we can get at least a couple of 4*-5* recruits even before the O&W game. Thanks.

considering we have offered most of the 5 stars, that is going to happen. considering the number of offers we through out there we aren't even going to get 25% of the 4 stars we offer, we wouldn't even have room for that many of them.

11/26 five stars are committed. 4 of the committed dont have offers from UT. 1 is committed to us. that leaves 6 of 26 five stars. and so far the only 5 stars committed that we are really after are Lawrence and Fields. check what you say before running your mouth.
