'18 GA CB Kyler McMichael

"Tennessee has never seen itself as the favorite. Like I said earlier, "shades of confidence." UT sits on the lower end of that spectrum compared to Clemson, UGA and maybe Bama. There's no doubt that McMichael likes Warren and the vibe at UT, but the Vols would be a darkhorse pick. I'll have story on McMichael tomorrow discussing all this in further depth."

They'd just be guesses at this point anyway. Just pay attention to what Callahan does with his CB.

His would be a guess as well. Clemson was the favorite, he's taken a trip to Bama, trip to Clemson, trip to Tn, 2 trips to UGA this month. Did his favorite change? Announcing so quick after a visit normally favors the last team visited which is Tn.

Callahan doesn't typically guess. He waits to put a pick in after he's heard reliable info. So if I see Callahan throw out a CB on this kid I'd bet he's called coaches and it's leaked.

From 247:

Kyler McMichael, one of Alabama’s top cornerback targets in the Class of 2018, will announce his commitment Friday.

McMichael, a 247Sports 4-star prospect from Greater Atlanta Christian School (Norcross, Ga.), has visited Tuscaloosa multiple times this spring. Those visits weren’t public knowledge until he told SEC Country more than two weeks ago that he had been on campus at least three times. That was news to me because I hadn’t received word that McMichael had been on campus recently.

Clemson seemed the likely landing spot for McMichael earlier this year. I still believe the Tigers are in very good position to land his commitment; however, the Crimson Tide are also in a good spot after talking to multiple sources Tuesday night.

The thought right now is it’s a three-team race with Alabama, Clemson and Georgia battling it out for McMichael. The Bulldogs aren’t feeling confident with where they stand as of Tuesday.

One person close to McMichael went as far to say he thinks McMichael will choose Alabama at the end of the week. Hard emphasis on “thinks” there. But, that’s better than what I thought the team’s chances were when I found out he was going to announce his commitment this week, which came as a surprise because he had said earlier this month that he wanted to take some official visits before deciding. His original plan was to commit before his senior season, so it looks like he decided on that, after all.

He released his top 6 of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee on June 14. That was followed with a trip to Tennessee last weekend and the decision Tuesday to go ahead and announce his commitment. Interestingly enough, no one I spoke to thinks the Volunteers are in a good spot even after his decision to go through with a commitment after his visit to Knoxville.

McMichael told SEC Country that Alabama was one of the schools recruiting him the hardest and his interest in the Crimson Tide is high.

“It’s definitely one of my top schools,” McMichael said. “I have been able to communicate with [defensive backs coach] Derrick Ansley almost every day. They talk about how they talk about me all of the time up there. I definitely feel like a top priority to them. I love it.”

McMichael is a giant priority for Alabama. After signing zero cornerbacks in the Class of 2017, the Crimson Tide are strongly pursuing him, along with Tyson Campbell, Josh Jobe, Patrick Surtain Jr., Jalyn Armour-Davis and Jaycee Horn. The Tide would like to sign four defensive backs this cycle.

“They want bigger press corners, so they see that out of me,” McMichael said. “That’s what I love — getting up on the line, pressing and being physical.”

He’s been laser-timed in the low 4.4-second range in the 40-yard dash. The 6-foot-1, 196-pound prospect also has been compared to one of Alabama’s best players.

“I did have one college coach who compared just his size and skill set defensively to like a Minkah Fitzpatrick,” Greater Atlanta Christian coach Tim Hardy told my colleague Jeff Sentell at DawgNation. “It was a knowledgeable SEC coach. So you just see he has all of that. The size. The length. The speed. He can really do some stuff.”

Alabama is definitely a strong player for the nation’s No. 13 cornerback. More than what I originally thought.

Last Saturday, Rivals100 athlete Kyler McMichael visited Tennessee for the sixth or seventh time just in the last two years. Four days later, word leaked that the Great Atlanta Christian School (Ga.) standout planned to make his college choice sometime on Friday. Good news for Tennessee? Not exactly.

The Vols have recruited McMichael hard since offering the 6-foot-1, 195-pound prospect last March. They’ve been an attractive option for McMichael ever since, and they didn’t lose a beat when they had a coaching change in the secondary, as the future defensive back already had a strong relationship with Charlton Warren when Tennessee’s new coach was at North Carolina.

“He’s been recruiting me for a long time,” McMichael said after ‘Orange Carpet Day’ on Saturday. “He’s very sincere. He’s a great guy. I could learn a lot from him.” So why aren’t the Vols particularly confident heading into Friday’s decision? The timing, mostly. McMichael just released his Top 6 a week ago, and indicated plans to stay overnight at each one of his finalists this summer to “get a good feel for them” before making a September decision. He’s done that with a couple of his suitors already, but McMichael did not spend the night on Rocky Top last weekend.

Furthermore, while McMichael has tripped to Tennessee twice this spring — Saturday and for a practice in April — he’s visited Clemson and Georgia multiple times this month. Both the Tigers and Bulldogs, as well as Alabama, have also offered the idea of allowing McMichael to play some offense or return punts in college after he tallied nearly 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns playing running back as a junior for GAC. McMichael said Saturday that the Vols were recruiting him strictly as a cornerback, though. At this point, the deck appears to be stacked against Tennessee. Still, the Vols can’t be counted out completely on Friday, as no one has a true beat on where McMichael is going right now.

“The people. They’re very sincere. It’s very lively. It’s not too far away from my house. It’s great up here,” he said Saturday. When asked what Tennessee’s message was to him, he said bluntly, “potentially coming in and starting.” “They’re losing a lot of DBs, and they don’t have a lot right now, so they said they’re going to bring in some high school DBs and he’s going to potentially be starting, so that really stood out to me,” McMichael explained.

I can't look at newts posts anymore without gagging after the whole bush discussion 🤢

I would rather it be Clemson than UGA or Bama. Plus a top GA athlete leaving the state give the UGA fans more to whine about with Kirby.

That would be 11 of the top 20 in the state committed and UGA still has zero. Most of the remaining guys are projected to go elsewhere too. They may only end up with 3 or 4 of the top 20.

There are 4 5*s in state this year and if Clemson can still Salyer UGA would get none of them.
