Georgia right now has more talent than Alabama. Probably more talent than anyone in the country. The head coach couldnât coach his way out of a wet paper bag. Give our staff that roster and they win back to back national titlesPoint I'm making is his coordinators are not as strong as what he had. If he makes questionable calls in game as well he will still win 10 plus a year based off talent alone
Both coordinators had their best years at UGA with that talent. Mel Tucker wasn't seen as an elite d-coordinator and Chaney had been solid before, but wasn't putting up those kind of numbers. Coordinators are more important in the NFL where there is more talent parity. In college talent can mask coaching issues.Point I'm making is his coordinators are not as strong as what he had. GA's problem is everyone is expecting Saban success with that talent. Both coordinators had their best years at UGA with that talent. Who is? Saban is most likely the greatest college coach of all time. Expecting a 3rd year coach to match that of a veteran Sabanâs is a bit much. Kirby wonât be the next Saban, but heâs been successful thus far. Overachieved in year 2 and wouldâve won a championship if the GOAT didnât block him with a superior talented team. The next year he was expected to take a step back after losing 30 seniors, which included his best players on offense and defense and he did. Despite that he still hit expectations and hung with bama in the SECC. Too early to tell what happens from here, but heâs 2-2 in his biggest games so far. 1-1 in the playoffs and 1-1 in SECC games. Iâd consider that successful for a 3rd year HC. Imo heâs been a good CEO type coach. Elite recruiting and defensive mind, but will probably need the right OC to win it all. Not sure if Coley can be that OC, but Chizik won a NC so who knows.GA's problem is everyone is expecting Saban success with that talent.
Who is? First of all the media. The ones that built him up when he got the job that led to him being so successful in recruiting. They generally quickly forget things like you just said after a few more defeats like LSU and Texas when they have talked excessively about how much talent has been recruited. The question is how long will they give him to become the next Saban that they expect him to be. With the media it is all or nothing.Who is? I agree the media likes to pump up new things. Their narrative changes with public perception, which also changes all the time. Itâll only get worse once Saban retires. Weâll hear about the âNew Sabanâ after every big win. Itâll be interesting to see which coach takes advantage then though. Imo itâll be between Smart, Pruitt, Fisher, and Orgeron. All 4 can recruit and that seems to be the most important thing right now. Seems like talent is following talent now more than ever.Who is? First of all the media. I think people are kidding themselves poo-pooing Kirby's ability, even if he's a B- gameday coach right now, most folks tend to get better at that over time, and he's already an A+ recruiter which in college football is more than half the battle. They've given Alabama all they wanted the last 2 years and neither time were they favored. I can't stand the jackanape's haircut and cocky attitude but we'd be soiling ourselves if Pruitt did in 3 years what Kirby has his first 3. I don't think Kirby's Saban, there'll probably never be another Saban, but he's going to be a pain in the rump for years. They are expecting Saban success or some version there of due to talent they have and leadni g under him for so many years. I live 25mins south athens trust me 95 percent people expect that

Not kidding myself or poo-pooing his abilities. Just pointing out the media built him up which helped lead to his recruiting so well. Now the media and the GA fans are going to expect those #1 classes to get results. Teams have done well against AL, even Butch's, and still lose. The LSU and Texas games put some doubts in people's minds. Just the way it works.I think people are kidding themselves poo-pooing Kirby's ability, even if he's a B- gameday coach right now, most folks tend to get better at that over time, and he's already an A+ recruiter which in college football is more than half the battle. That Rose Bowl season is what really threw their recruiting into overdrive. They were ranked like #53 in recruiting or something going into the season, a lot of them were freaking out, but their recruits were in a wait and see mode that season (sort of like a lot of ours are now) and they were absolutely dominant when no one expected them to be. You've got to give the guy credit for that, then they went 11-1 and won the east last year despite losing 31 seniors (a number we repeated early and often around here this time last year when we were hoping for a UGA faceplant). Not kidding myself or poo-pooing his abilities. I'm not talking about imploding. Although there has been some jokes going on on here. I'm talking about how the media has built him up because of being under Saban for so long, landing consecutive top 3 classes and the things you mentioned. I'm saying he is going to have to pedal on that pedal stool that he is on. He went 11-1 last year, and people remember the 2 games he was embarrassed in by LSU and Texas with the talent he had even if some of it was young. He has enough talent that the expectation is championship. He got them closer than MR, but they will be demanding more. The media will move on to their new darling if he doesn't deliver soon. Eventually recruits will also. Hopefully we are one of the teams that stops his momentum. That Rose Bowl season is what really threw their recruiting into overdrive. Pruitt took over a program in much worse condition but if we get to 8-4 or even a scrappy and competitive 7-5 this year we'll get a nice momentum boost as recruits move out of wait and see mode and into buy-in mode, and we'll have earned it. I'm just saying I'm not sold on the idea Kirby is going to implode on his own accord, based on what I've seen to date I think that's wishful thinking, we're going to have to make them implode.
Hopefully, we need to show some improvement on the field, we don't need to have a Rose Bowl season (though that would be nice), we just need to show real progress is being made.I'm not talking about imploding. I remember the beginning of last season, we were discussing how many of GAâs seniors were gone and that they would suffer somewhat a set back. Some of the GA posters were quick to point out that the ones leaving were a non factor, most of them werenât in contributing roles and wouldnât be missed. They were right, werenât missed, but now the narrative is Kirby excelled despite losing that many seniors. Building the legend of Kirby, right before our eyes.I'm not talking about imploding. Yes. I think we have the coaches that can identify talent and get the most out of it. The better we play and each player grows, the better players we will get sooner.Hopefully, we need to show some improvement on the field, we don't need to have a Rose Bowl season (though that would be nice), we just need to show real progress is being made.
It will be interesting to see how the media treats Kirby this year after a loss.I remember the beginning of last season, we were discussing how many of GAâs seniors were gone and that they would suffer somewhat a set back.
