'18 GA DE Jamarcus Chatman (Former UT commit 6/25/17)

That's why I said I am not talking about him specifically, just the overall 3 star recruits we have been getting. That is why I said, you would not want to have a high percentage of 3 star or lower players making up your team.

Again, not saying he is not or will not be quality player, just number of 3 stars we have been getting.

Have you looked at out commits?

We have a top 10 class now with 4* DTs, a 4* safety, and a top 100 WR, QB, and OL. We're fine even if all you're interested in is stars.

Hope he commits to us.
We'll see but we want him and another that may come as a package deal. Well, there's actually a 3rd also.

Ha....my bad. I read that as he decommitted from LSU & committed to UT. Yeah, I hope he comes over to our side along with his buddy from Rome, Ga. That would be sweeeet!!

I am just confused as to how the numbers are going to work out in the event that we take Chatman. He is a "package deal" with Griffin - which I don't like - so that would put us currently at, what, four DL commits? We anticipate adding Emerson, and still have shots at a number of other blue chip defensive linemen.

Personally, I would rather make sure we get Emerson, and then sell out for Jordan Davis or Ojulari, rather than get Emerson and then fill up at D-line with one prospect (Griffin) who we have determined is marginal from the outset, and another who has a history of flipping (Chatman).

Yes, Griffin may bring in a connection to a running back next class and to Anderson. Who knows what next class will hold, and I just always feel like it is more of a gamble than I'm comfortable with to take kids in order to get other kids.

That said, my opinion doesn't matter, and I will continue to read this stuff and get either frustrated or happy depending on how the staff's moves jive with my understanding of the situations. So...Go Vols.

I think we need to make sure that one of the guys we pick up is a true DE as well. Emerson and Chatman both seem like hybrid types that might grow into DTs down the line if they're not very careful about their S&C

Sounds like Tennessee's willing to take the package deal and LSU wasn't. At least for now anyways...Butch can always cut bait week of signing day lol

it's always a trip watching recruiting battles here, and as before...gonna let the staff do my choosing/recruiting...that's what they get paid for...why not...BSIA...:pepper::peace2::salute:

GO VOLS!

In February, Tennessee was the first SEC school to extend a scholarship to Chatman, who now holds more than 40 offers including Alabama, Michigan, Miami and Florida State. The Vols tried for months to get the Peach State defensive lineman on campus, and after offering Rome (Ga.) High teammate and LSU commit Ja'Quon Griffin a scholarship Friday, Chatman and Griffin — best friends and a pronounced package deal — decided to visit Tennessee for the first time.

“I heard it was a nice stadium and a nice campus, so after everybody told me multiple times I just had to come up and visit. It was awesome,” Chatman said. “Everything. Awesome. All the coaching staff showed that they really wanted me. They made me feel like I was family.”

Before leaving campus Saturday, Chatman openly acknowledged Tennessee “definitely” gave him something to think about moving forward.

Now that he’s officially back on the market, the Vols are suddenly a major player for the defensive lineman, with Miami and Georgia (should the Bulldogs finally offer) legitimate options as well. Chatman said UT coach Brady Hoke gave him “a lot of attention” Saturday, and the 6-foot-2, 264-pound prospect detailed his Tennessee ties, too.

“When I first got (the UT offer), I was just ecstatic,” Chatman said. “My sister-in-law went to Tennessee. My brother, he was real happy, too. They’re big Tennessee fans, so everybody in my family is really happy.” Will that factor into his future decision? “My family is comfortable with whatever I choose,” he said. “But they like Tennessee.”
