'18 GA QB Emory Jones (Ohio State commit)

I'm calling it now. JG will win a national championship here and be a 1st round draft pick. He's incredible. You mention his passing, he has one of the strongest arms I've seen in a while. He needs to improve touch, he can do that, but guy has a cannon and he is supremely athletic.

I love jg. The throws he made in high school were nice. It will be nice that he will have a few years to improve and were not relying on a frosh. The laat two of three qbs we played were all true freshmen when we needed them. One of the biggest improvements with Jones is that we are playing upper classmen in critical spots.

You keep bringing this up. It's true, but what's the likelihood of players like Jones flipping? Especially when Ohio ST always has a realistic chance of winning it all,

50/50. Any other odds besides that are both foolish and erroneous. Nobody knows what this guy is going to do until he actually signs his LOI and enrolls.

But some posters like to think once a guy commits to a school, its automatically over. Thats ignorant and dumb. Especially when it involves a 2018 recruit and its only the middle of 2016. Decommitments happen all the time. They even happen to Alabama. Thats why I keep bringing it up. But whatever.

VN is the only place where people think a commit is the end game.

Only if it is a commitment to somewhere else. If it is a commitment to UT we will wring our hands and fret about a de-commitment. Plus every time one of our commits takes a different route to the mall we will assume it is to meet the competition and a de-commitment is imminent.

Ignorant, dumb, foolish. I see a lot of words there that could be applied to the "50/50" analysis. The only thing that is 100 percent right now is that Jones is committed to Ohio State. That's the way it is, and my expectations will be shaped based on that information. If there is some development that changes that, such as Jones taking a trip to Knoxville, or a coaching change on either side that impacts his recruitment, I'll adjust my line of thinking.

But to call people out just because they are treating Jones as a commited player is pretty pathetic. I don't care if he's a leftover from 2016 or a 2019 prospect. You don't know his thought processes, so why be a douche about it?

Look at T Lawrence... committed, then not...

I must have missed when he committed to anyone.

If you were talking about HJ, sure, it obviously happens to our benefit and detriment. But for some reason, people fail to take into account that every single recruit thinks differently. So just because it happened with him, doesn't mean EJ acts and thinks like HJ. He's committed to Ohio State, so I don't get why some posters are acting like they are smarter than everyone else by not acknowledging that. For now, there is no reason to think that he's changing his mind.

Wonder if he got better over night or if he's better because he committed to OSU?

He's always been that good. The Rivals guys have been saying for months he was going to get a huge bump and was a 5* talent. IMO, he should be #1 overall. If I had to pick one guy over the last 4 years, I'd say he's the biggest single loss this staff has had to date.

I know chances are probably slim but he isn't really a loss just yet. Still got about 18 months until his NSD. Anything could happen.

Still 18 months left before he's officially lost.

Edit: Glicht beat me to it.

Funny how they wait till after he commits to the buckturds to bump him.

Nope. Its completely over and we have absolutely no shot at landing him. Hopefully Butch just stops recruiting him and moves on. I am sure every other school that was recruiting him will do the same.

Yes your post is very ignorant, dumb and foolish. I am glad I made you realize it.

I thought Emory Jones was a good QB, but now that he is committed to Ohio State it is obvious he isn't. Only overrated and ultimately mediocre QBs play there.

I've been following recruiting for years but I'm starting to figure this thing out. Many here are wondering why we are not having as much success this year. This is not a science or gospel, just one man's opinion. Reasons for recruiting success.

1. New head coaches: New coaching staffs bring new life and excitement to a program. Every new staff at major programs have early success from a recruiting ranking standpoint.

2. Promise of early playing time at nearly every position: this goes hand in hand with new head coaches. They all sell the promise of new recruits being "their" players.

3. Success during recruits freshman and sophomore years in high school: this one is big. This is also the area that is hurting us right now. Kids want to go to the schools that have the "juice" right now. The key here is "right now". That time to the kids is when they first start being recruited. 4 and 5 star kids start getting offers in the 9th and 10th grade, so the programs that stand out are the ones that are hot at that time.

For the class of '17 we were a 5-7 team then a 7-6 team. The newness of this staff has worn off and we can no longer sell early PT everywhere. 3* recruits don't start getting offers until their junior year, thus making us a hot team among the best of the 3* guys for '17. We will finish strong this year as long as we win, but it still won't be a top 5 class. A 10+ win season can help us finish in the 8-10 range in recruiting. The positive here is we look strong for next couple of classes. We have some of that juice right now. I hope we maintain it. The key in a year like this is to gather the best athletes possible and guys that fit your system. By default, you will still end up with a few gems. As far as Emory Jones is concerned, we just need to win and hope Michigan beats the Buckeyes this year. That is the best chance of a flip. But we may have landed the best QB in the '16 class and he will likely redshirt. We will be just fine.
