I dunno. 1 QB a year seems like a must have to me. If anything, it helps with recruiting if you have a top 10 rated QB in your class.

Agree. That's the type of class you take a project type QB (J. Jennings for example) but a potential QB all the same.

We have been down the no QB class before then get pissed when it burns is later. You can't predict the future. You got to take a QB each class to avoid finding yourself having to take 3 in one class like we did this past year even though we all know Jennings prob ends up at another position after his spring performance

Cartersville rising sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence has made it no secret that there were two schools he was hoping to receive scholarship offers from this summer, Georgia and Tennessee.

Lawrence got the Tennessee offer on May 31 and, on Sunday night, received the other offer he has been waiting for from the Bulldogs.

“I was pretty excited. I had been waiting on it for a little while,” Lawrence said of when Georgia head coach Mark Richt gave him the news. “I was already focusing on my high school team, but now there’s nothing I really need to worry about, just getting better with my team. I’m done with camps this summer so we’re ready for the season.”

The offer capped a busy weekend after Lawrence attended a Tennessee recruiting camp Friday, followed by Georgia’s recruiting camp on Saturday.

Lawrence said the Georgia offer puts the Bulldogs close to Tennessee on the top of the list, but he is not ready to make any final decision on where he’ll be attending school.

“Hopefully, by next summer, I’ll know. But if I don’t, I’m not going to push it. We’ll see,” Lawrence said of when he could commit. “I’m happy I have those two [offers from Tennessee and Georgia]. There’s a couple of other schools I’m considering, but I don’t need any more offers right now. If other schools want to offer me, that’d be great, but I’m happy with what I have right now.”

Lawrence now has 14 scholarship offers, including offers from California, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Clemson, Colorado State, Duke, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, Southern Miss and Virginia Tech.

During the “Dawg Night” Saturday, Lawrence worked out in a group of three quarterbacks that also included the nation’s top-ranked signal caller in the class of 2016, Jacob Eason, and the top-ranked quarterback from the class of 2017, McEachern’s Bailey Hockman. Both players have already committed to play for Georgia.

By all accounts, Lawrence held his own among the heralded prospects.

Rusty Mansell, recruiting analyst for 247sports, tweeted of Lawrence’s performance, “Thought [Lawrence] was really good [Saturday] night at Dawg Night. He is going to push for 5-star down the line.”

Matt DeBary, recruiting analyst for Scout, wrote, “Trevor Lawrence should have had a Bulldog offer months ago. He is a top prospect in the 2018 class and proved it again Saturday night. ... He showed good footwork, a quick release and the ball really had some spin on it when it left his hand. He showed great poise, and was getting coached up by offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer all night.”

Jeff Sentell, recruiting analyst for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, took it even further, saying, “That grouping [with Eason and Hockman] pushed one another and it would not be out of bounds to say Lawrence might have been the most consistent passer of the night.”

Lawrence said he was a little concerned when he left Georgia on Saturday night because he had yet to receive an offer, but it worked out in the end.

“I was a little disappointed, but it was all in the plan. Obviously, they offered me the next day. I’m not worried about it. I’m glad they did offer,” Lawrence said of not getting an offer until after the camp. “[Georgia’s coaches] said it was crazy that night, so they just had to talk about some stuff after. They told [Cartersville head coach Joey King] to tell me to call them.”

Before Sunday, Hockman had been the only quarterback Schottenheimer had offered a scholarship to since taking the offensive coordinator position in January.

Along with Hockman and Eason, some of the best prospects were at Dawg Night for Lawrence to throw to and compete against.

“It was super crowded, but there was some good talent there,” Lawrence said. “I talked to [Eason and Hockman]. They’re good. It’s good to know what Georgia is going to have the next couple of years.”

Lawrence also was impressed with the Tennessee visit on Friday.

“I visited and toured and everything before the camp, and then I threw for them and talked to [Tennessee head coach Butch Jones],” Lawrence said. “They said they really liked me, and told me to keep coming back and to build that relationship.

“I really liked [Jones]. He’s a cool guy and a good coach.”

I think it's hilarious that all these kids think Coach Jones is hip and cool. We have us a recruiting monster for a head coach ladies and gentlemen.Couldn't be any happier.

Didn't know UGA had Hockman committed to go with Eason. They'll have some great talent at QB for a while if it works out for them. I trust Butch to keep us ahead.

Butch's personality around recruits and the team must be completely different from what we see in interviews and press conferences.

I thought Hunter Johnson was the top ranked Quarterback in '17, not Hockman as the article suggest. No?

Representing Cartersville. This is awesome. That school also has some young baseballers that will probably be in the pros after high school. Crazy the talent this little town produces.

Indeed for baseball. I'm not aware of any big name MLB superstars they've produced. Tate blew his chance... They have a handful in the college and minor leagues though. Always competing for a state title in the talent heavy state of GA.

Um...no? Butch Jones is boring as hell on TV and in interviews. If you shook him, the same 6 phrases would fall out, just in a different order.

I think he fires people up listening to him, makes you wanna play for him, and seems sincere. They just raved about it, again, this year during media days. The whole panel talked about how players love a coach like that and wanna play for a coach like that. Obviously, that seems to be the case too. I'm sure he is even better on visits and things like that in person, but I don't really know what more you want from interviews etc.

Our potential run on QBs could end up with us having the most amazing amount of QB talent we have ever had on one depth chart.
