Ryan, in the article it mentioned he committed to Helfrich. Would this almost be a lock if Helfrich comes to Knoxville considering the vols have already offered? Also your thoughts on him as a player.

Callahan:

I don't know about "almost a lock," but you would have to think Tennessee has a pretty good chance with Yankoff if things turn out that way.

Personally, I think he's a pretty good player. He went to Tennessee back in June for one of its camps, and I was honestly a bit surprised the Vols didn't offer him at the time. But they were also pursuing Emory Jones at the time.

“They have always been pretty far up my list,” Yankoff said. “I have always liked them. I like the school. I like the staff. I like the environment there. So the offer was big. I really appreciate it and I'm excited about it.”

“Obviously, the football program is pretty darn good and I like that. But when I visited this past summer, I really liked the city, actually,” Yankoff said. “It was very cool. The fact that there is water around is cool. I know that sounds silly, but up here we have a bunch of lakes and it's really fun in the summer to get to go wake surfing and stuff. I thought that was cool. I just like the environment there. “I'm hoping to make it back up sometime soon. Probably sometime in the summer time. I'm not really sure yet. I would like to make it up for sure to visit.”

After committing to Oregon back in June, the nation's 7th-ranked signal caller backed off his commitment and is taking his time with his decision. “I am going to treat it the same way as I did before I committed. I'm in no hurry,” Yankoff said. “If something stands out then I will definitely look into it. I definitely want to get out and look into some schools and get to know the staff and place a little better. If I find the school that is the right fit, then it's the right fit. I'm in no rush. We will take our time and look at all our options.”

“I'm not really sure who all I'm going to go visit,” Yankoff offered. “Obviously, I'm going to get back to Tennessee. Nebraska is one that I may want to go visit because that was a more recent offer and I haven't had a chance to look into them as much.”

One thing that won't affect Yankoff's travel plans or his decision is mileage as distance from Idaho is not a significant issue. “That's something that me and my family have talked about,” Yankoff said. “We have decided that if the school is the right fit then it's the right fit. We aren't going to worry too much about the distance and the traveling.”

Huffman on what stood out about Yankoff's game: "First of all, the one thing that I really noticed was his leadership ability. I know a lot of times when you say that about a quarterback it downplays their physical abilities, but I think I saw that more than anything... because of the fact that his receivers had chances to catch the ball. They were dropping a ton of passes. A lot of the time quarterbacks get frustrated when their key passes are being dropped. I never saw any real bad body language with him, I never saw any frustration. I saw him encouraging his teammates, clapping his hands. That was one of my big takeaways the other night."

Huffman on Yankoff's passing ability: "From a pure passing standpoint, he throws a nice ball. He threw a lot of really nice deep passes, but his receivers didn't have the speed to get there. They weren't bad overthrows. They were well-thrown balls, the receivers just didn't have the speed to get downfield. A couple of his beautiful, pinpoint timing throws, the receivers dropped it. Even one of his touchdowns - it was a quick out route that went off his receiver's hands, and fortunately went to another receiver who took it in for a touchdown."

"I wouldn't say he's got outrageous arm strength, like a Matt Corral or Jacob Sirmon, but he throws a pretty good deep ball - really consistent, accurate in his shorter throws. He's a dual-threat guy, but you still see the arm there. You still see the touch and the accuracy and the ability to make all the throws."

According to 247Sports national director of scouting Barton Simmons, this is a "big get" for Oregon. "You're getting a kid with all the tools...He's big and exceptionally athletic for a guy his size. He's got a ton of arm talent. He's been tucked away in Idaho. If he was from Houston or Miami or Los Angeles, he'd have as many offers as any quarterback in the 2018 class. I think this is a big pickup for Oregon because I think he'll emerge as a top quarterback in the 2018 class. This is huge get and I think he's a kid that will stick with his commitment. He will also be a great ambassador for the Oregon 2018 class."
