"I was born and raised in Nassau," Swaby said. "My parents decided to send me up to play football my freshman year. I played three years at St. Thomas Acquanis and then moved out to Los Angeles for my senior season. I was committed to the University of New Mexico but due to my grades I didn't qualify. The offensive line coach at New Mexico knew the coach at Navarro and he put me in touch with the coaches down here."
He's heard from plenty of programs looking for a quicker fix on the offensive line. That includes Tennessee and it's why the Vols will host Swaby on an official visit this coming weekend. The message has been clear to Swaby as he reiterated to Volquest.com that Tennessee needs someone who can be a factor. "They told me they have one spot left," Swaby said. "Coach Pruitt said it can't be a position where they hit or miss. It has to be a home run. They are extremely excited to get me on campus and for me to get a feel for the place by meeting the coaches and players."
Swaby seems to have his academics in order now as the staff at Navarro Junior College have him on the right track. That makes him a commodity at his size with plenty of eligibility to burn. "The situation I'm in right now is I'm a four for three," Swaby said. "The coaches can decide to redshirt me and let me get bigger and develop me or I can play right away and have a year to play with somewhere."
Swaby played high school ball his senior season at 6-foot-8 and 290 pounds. He currently stands 6-foot-9 and 315 pounds. He believes he can be a real contributor for whatever school he chooses. He is just hoping for an opportunity and that's what offensive coordinator Tyson Helton has spoke to him about. "I've been talking to coach Pruitt and coach Helton," Swaby said. "He came down and saw me and he is the one that texts me on a regular basis. He tells me what they need at Tennessee and how they have a need for offensive lineman."
He also has an official visit set up with Ole Miss and says Oklahoma has been calling trying to get him on campus for an official visit to Norman. The trip to Oxford is set for June 1st. It appears that his recruitment is far from over, but what if things went well on Rocky Top? Might Swaby shut down the process and pick the orange? "It's really something that I'd have to talk to my family and coaches about," Swaby said. "It's my life, but there is more than just me in making this decision. My mom and all my aunts and uncles and my coaches that I really trust I'd want to hear their advice. Who knows what will happen on the visit and how it will go."
