the 6-foot-9, 315-pound swaby said he plans to enroll at the school of his choice as early as july, and he would be eligible to play during the 2018 season. He said he’s now focusing on tennessee, houston, ole miss and oklahoma, although he hasn’t received a scholarship offer from tennessee or oklahoma. But he said the vols have shown “serious interest” in him since tennessee offensive coordinator tyson helton stopped at his school two weeks ago, during navarro’s final week of spring practice, and they’re “super excited to get me on campus” this weekend.

“coach helton came down here to talk to the coaches, and he found out about me, like, the last week of spring,” said swaby, who signed with new mexico in 2016 out of bishop mora salesian high school in los angeles before enrolling at navarro in january 2017. “they expressed some serious interest. They’ve been talking to me a lot ever since. "they set up the visit, of course, for this weekend. Right now, they told me that they need basically a slam dunk. That’s why they haven’t officially offered yet, so i’m guessing they kind of want to just wow me on the visit and offer and then see where it goes from there. “i know they really need a tackle with my length and height. They have a great need for a tall tackle, is what they were telling me, so they’re really interested at this point.”

Has the measurables that you can’t coach, but if he didn’t even start at his JUCO then I don’t know if he can be considered a “slam dunk”

And I don’t mean to speak ill of him in saying that

Yeah that's worrisome and prob why we haven't offered yet. Don't know who was in front of him though. If it was someone solid that staff was trying to help get into a school then it's legit excuse. If they sucked then def worrisome. At least he played and didn't just ride bench. He looks pretty good on highlights. I would like to see a bit more power/force

Until we get back on our feet the AA should let us have an extra scholarship to use on raw, unprojectable O lineman with huge physical upside. The Dontavius Blair Memorial something or another.....

I think it's interesting that this kid says the staff is telling him we only have one spot left.

All offseason it had been suggested we were in the market for 2 graduate transfer OL.

Which is the more likely scenario:

a. It was always 1 we were going to take, never 2.
2. The staff initially wanted to take 2, but feel better after spring or after getting Hall/Smith etc back.
III. A grad xfer has indicated to the staff they plan to be a Vol.

I'm going with 2. I think this team is much better than this staff initially thought.

That dude forever burned me from getting excited about JUCO Players

Didn't he go in to play somewhere and end up ok? Saw something about him working out for draft. Don't know if he ever did anything. With how poor Loy developed our OL have been it's probably a coaches thing. Too many busts

Yeah it's weird just last wk VQ is saying we want to add 1 OL and 1 Cb at least. So we either decided not too or someone is lined up or we don't like any other CB options over our current guys

It could also mean they only have 1 OL spot left and still looking at a CB to add.

Swaby no longer visiting...

The 6-foot-9, 315-pound Swaby said earlier this week that he had been in contact with the Vols over the past couple of weeks, and while they had yet to officially extend a scholarship offer to him, they were "super excited to get me on campus" this weekend.

But he said first-year Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt's staff reached out to him Wednesday and called off the visit.

"They called me this morning to let me know they found another guy that was gonna go there for sure," Swaby said, "and expressed how sorry they were about everything."

Swaby said earlier this week that the Vols were one of four teams on his "top list" of choices, along with Houston, Ole Miss and Oklahoma. He said he had scheduled an official visit to Ole Miss for June 1-3, and he has talked with Oklahoma about a possible official visit the weekend of May 18.
