'18 LA CB/WR Eddie Smith

I backed off all that this last year. He just wasn’t getting it done. Talent and tools not producing means you’re a bad football player.

i thought he'd be a good one too, he had some moments, like that good hustle play coming from behind to cause a fumble.. prob was, he was behind too often

I think most people did. UGA offered, and that was when Pruitt was the DC. UF and LSU offers as well. It stinks he never panned out because he had the look of a legit SEC CB.

Somewhere at some camp he must've shown out. TN talent is hard to judge for certain positions due to competition. Measurables can only be taken with a grain of salt and if Im a coach I wanna see them play.

Curious what position(s) he played in hs. It would be telling, given his size/athleticism, if he played multiple spots/sports.

That's the only thing that impressed me about CBS or CBJ one. The number of impact fumbles late in the game that we forced. Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, and I know I'm missing some others

Seems like south Carolina last year there was one.

Bahahaha martin did have the tools I really chick it up to **** coaching mostly

IDK, he had the same coaching as the others but found a way to look worse with a better skill set.

However, it's very possible he would have benefitted the most from great coaching. So much athleticism.

Some of it may jist been him not dedicated to get the mental aspect of game down....kind of like eason.....

He played RB in HS if I remember correct. He’s 6’2 with long arms so you can see his athleticism immediately for a DB.

A play like that shows his speed and athleticism. Dude wasn’t consistent rep to rep though.

Simplest explanation is that he doesnt have it between the ears. I've been saying that for two plus years now. Great athlete, not a good football player.

UF last year Martin had a crucial one to keep us in it.

On the thought of CB's... I think we truly won't be able to appreciate Raashan's impact with him leaving early. I was looking forward to seeing him under this new defensive look... Smh.

Was he good enough to leave early?? That is the question.

Does the 3-4 even use a Nickelback? That could have been a huge deciding factor. He was perfect for the NB position but not sure about his cover skills on good receiver's. I'm betting that played a huge factor in him leaving because I'm not even sure he gets drafted. Maybe a later rounds pick. He flourished once he became the starting Nickel. I have no idea clue where he would fit in with us going to a 3-4. Maybe someone with way more knowledge on it could answer that.

Yea, it’s nickel package is a 3-3-5 which Bama ran 70% of the time this year. That’s college football now. You will run 5 DB’s most of the time.

They do. You'll see 3-4 teams in what's basically a 4-2 a lot. They just shift the line and walk one LB out.

He would’ve been a CB in base defense.

Ok thank you both I really had no idea how the 3-4 would have changed where some players ended up. Then I have no clue why he chose to leave. Maybe he kills it when he works out for teams and helps his draft stock. He's got good size and knows how to tackle so he's got that working for him. You would just think he would wanna improve his stock by learning under JP, Sherrer and Fair. JP and Sherrer obviously know how to get guys NFL ready and it could have really benefited him.
