'18 LA CB/WR Eddie Smith

Does the 3-4 even use a Nickelback? That could have been a huge deciding factor. He was perfect for the NB position but not sure about his cover skills on good receiver's. I'm betting that played a huge factor in him leaving because I'm not even sure he gets drafted. Maybe a later rounds pick. He flourished once he became the starting Nickel. I have no idea clue where he would fit in with us going to a 3-4. Maybe someone with way more knowledge on it could answer that.
he is a 2-3 round talent. He is a very smart football player. He would of shined in this new defense... NB, SS, FS but mainly the Star postion... This defense requires some mental ability. There is a lot of information that you have to digest. He was physical enough to set the edge, smart enough to man/zone match, quick enough to hang in NB. But I would say he goes day one MAYBE, day two FOR SURE.

Confirmed, Eddie is a fan of the new hire.

I hope you are right but right now he's rated the #44 CB on the NFL Scout page. They even have Wiggins ahead of him. I hope he goes early but right now he looks projected to be a late round at best and maybe not at all. Hopefully he impresses and his stock goes up like Dobb's did. But he didn't pick the best year to come out early as a DB either. Ala alone has 5 guys rated above him. I'll be pulling for him to impress.

He could tackle well and was physical. He would’ve done well in that system but good luck to him in the NFL.

I think he would have too. It would have benefited him to play under this coaching staff. He didn't exactly get the best coaching in his Vol career. Definitely a head scratcher.

I'm glad he named us his leader, but it might be hard to hold off Alabama with the later visit. Alabama is sending a lot of DBs to the draft, they may be able to pitch playing time too. Hopefully our staff did enough to sway his decision in the end.

But look who has been coaching those DB’s

I think these kids just want to enjoy the process and see these universities up close and personal, same thing Eric Berry told his brothers. Unless something way out of the ordinary happens, he's a vol imo
