Glad we made it. Hopefully distance becomes too much of a factor. Most people's family would be able to maybe make one game a year with that kind of travel. Durham is roughly the same distance to Knoxville as Memphis is, and I can make that whole round trip late on a Friday and take no time off. I can pretty much guarantee you Durham doesn't even have direct flights to Eugene, OR. You'd have to drive to Raleigh, so the entire trip would be at least 8-10 hours depending on your drive/flight schedule.
"Tennessee is rebuilding with their new coaching staff," Currie-Elliott said. "I feel like they are on the come-up. I know a few legends that played at Tennessee. Peyton Manning is the face of Tennessee. I'd like to get to know more about Tennessee. I've been there a few times and I like the atmosphere. It felt like home and I like coach Gillespie and coach Jones."
His relationship with Robert Gillespie continues to thrive as the two frequently correspond. It's a sales pitch that includes a former Vol. "He's a real good coach," Currie-Elliott said. "He's not going to cut you no slack. We talk about every day. He talks to me about life, the future and how they are changing Tennessee each day. He tells me that I'd fit in and use me like Alvin Kamara was used."
"My strength of my game is my speed and vision," Currie-Elliott said. "Also a little bit of power. I like my ability to be versatile because I can play the slot. I think that is where the money is made. I'm an all-purpose running back. That's one thing I like about my game."
A decision doesn't seem like it's a long ways off. He isn't going to rush things, but also doesn't want to drag things out. He's looking for certain things as he finds the right fit.
"Academics, Atmosphere and playing time are all important to me," Currie-Elliott said. "I have to be able to feel the school and see if I like it. I think that is really big. Academics are big and I have a 3.7 GPA because you can't just think about football. You have to think about your school work so you can do other things in life. I want that home type feeling."
Today, experts from the Rivals.com network examine where Rivals250 running back Jamal Currie-Elliott might end up playing his college football. The candidates are Tennessee, Oregon and Virginia Tech.
The Situation: Currie-Elliott recently trimmed his list to the aforementioned three schools and has spoken highly of each program in the past. Hes made a few trips to Blacksburg in recent months, but his most notable visit was to Tennessee in February. Hes yet to see Oregon but has been consistent in his affinity for the Ducks and has said he plans to visit soon. A commitment could be on the horizon, so where will he end up? We asked our team experts to state the case for their respective programs and let National Recruiting Analyst Adam Gorney issue a verdict.
THE VERDICT
If the decision had to be made today, Tennessee would be Currie-Elliott's destination. Playing in the SEC and taking over for Alvin Kamara as a dual-threat coming out of the backfield is definitely appealing to the four-star. The Vols have done a great job recruiting him and landing in Knoxville would not be a surprise at all. The longer his recruitment goes on, the more Oregon has a chance. It has been his dream school for a long time and playing in that wide-open, spread offense could be his best option. Watch out for the Ducks if Currie-Elliott takes his time." Gorney
Same offense we run.
