'18 NC RB Zamir White

Fulmer was good at that stuff, used the Rocky Top Fund well. That was Dooley's downfall imho.
Dooley's principle problem was he was an abrasive dickhead. UT alumni and high school coaches that have been fans of UT all their lives pushed recruits to other schools and I can't say I blame them.

Dooley, I'm telling you he alienated everyone, including helpful boosters.

Was in discussions yesterday who was the best back between Akers, Harris, and White. I injected Chandler in that conversation, of course the two Bama fans said I was crazy (Harris wins 4 Heismans in their opinion) but everyone else agreed, Chandler will start by the end of the year imho.

That is interesting. I have little doubt that he gets significant carries, but starting over Kelly is something I will believe when I see it. Kelly is going to have an incredible year, IMO.

You mean those 3 consecutive top 15 classes Dooley strung together?

All of his classes were a complete joke.

The strong majority of his top rated guys were either JUCO's or guys with MAJOR off-field, grade or personal issues that everyone else passed on.

It's a crazy long list. Just off the top of my head you had John Brown, Da'Rick Rogers, Eddrick Lofton, Cam Clear, Maurice Couch, Izauea Lanier, Omari Phillips, Davante Borque, Deion Bonner. The list just goes on and on...

Most of his best recruits were mid-termers in his first class who were recruited by Kiffin and forced to sign with Tennessee even after the coaching switch.. (James, Bray, Miller, Fulton, Smith, etc...)

Pretty much this. A lot his four star players also weren't wanted by major schools. They were highly rated by recruiting services but not as sought after as far as major teams pursuing them. Don't even get me started on him addressing areas of need either. The talent gap was so wide at some positions that we were badly behind the rest of the conference.

Not to mention Dooley pissed off and alienated about everyone that had the unfortunate privilege of meeting him.

If Chandler is so good he takes the starting job from Kelly, then we're probably in for a hell of a season.

Edit: that being said, I expect Kelly to be the guy all year with Chandler getting 5-10 carries a game and CFA getting spot work mostly in the passing game.

Imo I think Chandler will take some carries away from Kelly before the year is over with .

Yep he was a complete disaster in everything he did and recruiting was right at the top.

Chandler not taking the job from Kelly....

Yeah, but Butch lost on the road with a depleted roster, especially defense. Kirby lost at home on homecoming with a fully healthy top ten roster. Big difference
True freshman QB, no solid receivers, and a bad offensive line ≠ top 10 roster

It's not like they were expected to win the East.........

Their talent is top ten. That's a fact. Their QB is a five star, number one QB in the country. Mark Richt wins 9-10 with that roster in the regular season, and he sure doesn't lose to Vandy at home on homecoming.

Yes, Smart was dealt a very bad hand. He needs time.... lots and lots of time. Should probably go ahead and extend his contract 5 or 10 more years to show support.

Actually, he did. Ironically, in Stafford's freshman year 2006, lost 24-22. Kirby lost 17-16 last year. Struggled with a freshman QB but it clicked about 1/3 thru his sophomore season and UGA ended up #2 in 2007, the craziest season I ever recall.

I think all questions of Smart are answered this year. Most fans will know if he can do it or not. Easily two games he cost Ga last year with his coaching but I can name games Richt lost, Saban lost, Butch lost, well, you know what I'm saying.

I absolutely agree. They should absolutely sign him through 2030 imo

Dooley, recruiting and the word fine should never be uttered together again. No coach with even an ounce of football IQ fails to recruit OL.

"Depleted roster"

We had like 5 guys out at that point. You should be able to beat a bottom dweller missing a handful of guys in year 4.

We're not going through this again. But you're very wrong

I wish I was wrong about losing to a Muschamp led SCjr and a Derek Mason led Vandy in a year we were overwhelmingly the favorite to be in Atlanta.

Teams that were predicted to finish 7th and 5th in the division, respectively.

This. It's truly amazing to me that anyone would argue that Dooley was fine in recruiting. He was an absolute disaster in recruiting.
