'18 PA JUCO OL Jahmir Johnson (UT signee)

I bet high school signees that start 3 games or more in their career would be closer to that number than many on here think. Heck I feel like half our classes weren't even on the team a year or two later on several of these classes. Let alone even sniffing starting a game

I'd also like to see the number of jucos that sign AND qualify. In some cases teams without a full class will take a flyer on a big juco talent knowing he's a low chance to qualify but high upside if he does

I agree that stats are similar for Hs guys but the reward is much higher when you find that he guy. Much easier to develop a kid when you have 5 years as opposed to 2-3 years and that doesn't even mention the baggage that comes with many juco guys.

Get this guy and then how are we feeling about Johncarlo Valentine? Anybody heard anything else about him?

Imo we were willing to take two JC OL and the LSU commit was the Priority. When he stuck with LSU it opened it up for taking both and that's why they waited. Or at least why this one waited as I think he was 3rd in the pecking order.

I think we would've taken all 3 if they wanted to come. We're that desperate on the OL.

I certainly hope your right. I'm starting to believe that with the small amount of organized football Kongbo has played we might not see his potential while on the hill. My hopes for him is to be solid not great. I really hope our LB play takes the next step. We need some heat seeking misses at that position. We need to at minimum stay healthy and get some solid play. IMO our defense will go as far as the LB play will take it.

Seems like even our last staff pulled some decent recruiting hauls at the LB position.....but most didn't reach (or weren't coached up) their expected potential. Examples - Dillon Bates, "the other" Berry brother, Jakob Johnson, ect. And the ones they pulled in that DID tap into some of their star potential, never got to fully shine because of injuries (could've been a Strength&Conditioning problem, maybe just bad luck, who knows). Examples - Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Darren Kirkland Jr, Quarte Sapp, ect. I honestly think a Bob Shoop Defense led by a HEALTHY Derek Barnette, Cam Sutton, TKJr, and Reeves-Maybin and Kirkland in the middle.......coulda been a scary Defense in the SEC. Fate didn't allow it tho unfortunately.

We started off solid by pulling Jerome Carvin into the fold to go with Tanner and Ollie (Hopefully atleast 1 of Tanner/Ollie develops into a solid contributor, probly as a Guard, or atleast solid backup options). And we've still got the former ESPN #1 ranked OL Trey Smith to hold it down going forward. If this new staff (specifically Coach Friend) can squeeze a little of that untapped star potential out of Drew Richmond, smh, it would do WONDERS for our OLine going forward. Now if we get the commit from Jahmir Johnson, that'll be another step towards fixing our BIGGEST weakness. I'd even make room in this class to take Jahmir Johnson, the other JUCO OL Johncarlo Valentine, AND I'd still take the GradTransfer from Cal Dwayne Wallace to plug a hole (Even if it's just for a yr). Trey Smith, Drew Richmond, Jerome Carvin.....plus Jahmir Johnson, maybe Valentine or Wallace.....Ollie/Tanner as backup/injury options - and our BIGGEST glaring weakness suddenly looks like a positive going forward over the next couple yrs. If only Cade Mays.......smh

Jahmir Johnson and Valentin are teammates. It's likely if we get one we get the other. Wallace apparently is not going to be able to come here due to Shaq Wiggins not making progress on a graduate degree, giving us a year long ban on recruiting a graduate transfer.

So, I could see it being Ollie/Tanner/Carvin/Jahmir and Johncarlo being our OL. Not a bad haul by any stretch.

Maybe our new staff will put Drew Richmond back at his natural position of RT Tackle and put Trey back at his natural position of LT Tackle, they were high school AA at those positions. Plug n play guards we’d have decent line for the first time in a while

They may be better suited to play guard. We've got a competent OL coach now.

Just curious,is this a hunch or you know something?

I had just read an article earlier where he stated that he had a former teammate at Mizzou that was like a brother and he felt comfortable there. He had also mentioned great weather and “NFL pipeline” about USC. I’m just not getting my hopes up, hope I’m wrong.

They were teammates in HS not juco but either way it helps
