I really like the fact he can be here next week and go through spring practice. That's a game changer for the QB competition. Hope it works out. Need all the help we can get.

This. I wasn’t a fan of bringing in a QB at first but this guy looks to have major upside and getting him into the fray immediately makes it very worthwhile

I mostly agree. Getting in next week would make it way more worth it. Although he'll be going to his 4th school at this point which is weird. He seems like he's mostly just wanting to go somewhere that will help him in his coaching career after next year based on his comments about bama in that SI article. I don't really think that's a bad thing though. He can compete and try to win the job and add to the depth if he doesn't win it. And learn from some really good coaches while he's here.

From the article above...

This improves my outlook on him a bit. #1 it appears he wants to actually play instead of pretend. Will see if that is true by who he chooses. #2 is he can come in for SP. That is important.

Subject to the NCAA with its coveted loopholes for some and not others, I agree with butchna. If it gets down to using a 4th team walk on QB to finish out a bad season, so be it. I want the spots to go to HS and juco players who can actually help beyond a few months of one season.

If it is all about how close he is to family and he is wanting to go to Bama, he's not a real player anyway. He will never see the field there. He just wants to bandwagon the opportunity.

You can view this guy's scholarship as the payment to redshirt JT Shrout and at least someone who can provide competition/depth. We're paper thin at QB right now, and I'm not yet sure if we have anyone good enough to play QB in the SEC. And I'm not sure if it'll be different next year yet, either.

Still don’t want. Roll with Guarantano.

I think this is totally a CYA move. They want somebody with experience to provide support in case of a catastrophe.

The price is low --- a 2018 scholarship, which we already have available.

Depending on what our numbers actually are. Norwood and Davis supposedly are awaiting blueshirts.

Seems definitely an insurance plan vs. a viable QB1

You are correct. There’s a chance that 1 of our current QBs on scholarship may check out if he perceives that he won’t have a chance to start or play this year. There’s also a need for at least 5 QBs on the roster to support practice rotations.

Bama's offering an incentive to coach there, while were offering legit playing time. No brainer here.

If he can't leave an impact to the might ECU pirates, what would make you think he would succeed here?

Did you not see his stats? They were great considering he played on a god awful team. It's hard to have the stats he did on a horrible 3-9 team. Imagine what he could do with teams who actually have some talent.

Like Troy? Where he walked on and couldn’t make a dent? Rather go with Bart Harris.

Don't know if he did or didn't never watched an ecu game. I think staff is looking more for someone to compete with Guarantano to push him and as a Saftey net for the kid that hasn't been healthy in a season he has actually played in his last 3 yrs( last yr and Jr/sr yr HS)

Disagree..They are looking for a guy who fits their system and could potentially start day 1. JG and McBride are Spread QB's and they are Looking for guys better suited for our offense. It's def for more than just a safety net. He would immediately be the best option when he arrived on campus. Chryst also would be if he chose to come here and he's visiting this weekend.

This “system” crap is so overdone. Can you make all the throws? Can you process defense coverages. Can you lead? Welcome to the SYSTEM. :huggy:

I agree, but I also think that the new staff must not have a lot of confidence that the QBs currently on the roster can do those things.
