'18 TN OL Jerome Carvin (UT signee)

I know it's good to recruit lineman that can play multiple positions, but give me two true tackles every year and a couple more who can play that can play every spot. You think that our fascination with moving players is because Fulmer used to recruit ends and move them to tackle linebackers to ends and safety's to linebacker?

hard to find two true good tackles every year though but i get what youre saying.

Very true but I think this year you have two true tackles( Mays) and Faalele (spelling) I think it would be a mistake to not take him. He could either be a superstar or a bust, but I feel like his upside is extrealmy high. Like a Johnathen Ogden potential. He was 6'9 345 and extremely athletic. I think he could be that type of player.

"Then there is Jerome Carvin. The big lineman from Memphis is set to visit Alabama on the 21st of July. We told y’all that was coming and it will be one worth watching. Michigan is also pushing hard of late, as they continue to work to get Carvin to visit later this month as well. Time will tell if he makes that trip, but Tennessee clearly has work to do on that front. We would still call the Vols the slightest favorite as of now."

I think he is a VOL, just adding to the suspense. I will say this it's nice to see us putting on our big boy panties on and competing with Alabama and Michigan for recruits. Instead of Central Florida and schools like that.

We've always competed with Bama and Michigan for recruits, with the exception of maybe the Dooley era. It's just now, for the first time in over a decade, we are winning some of those battles with the big boys.

And it certainly helps to have so many more high-quality in-state kids these days. Get one or two of those highly rated in-sate kids committed early, like Cade Mays, and let them get in the ear of everybody else.

And the new editions to this staff have been a huge upgrade on the recruiting trail. Butch and this new staff are just killing it right now.

Yes, but I no longer have a problem with who the staff identifies early (which is often), and decides to target. We identified Fields before anyone knew who he was, and now is a five star that had the greatest QB performance ever in the history of the opening. Just one example, even though not everyone pans out of course.

Kmac, Kongbo, Richmond, Smith, Dormady are just a few of the ones I recall having a Bama offer. Maybe we're winning a higher percentage of those battles this year to date (nothing counts till signing day as we all know), but you don't have 4 consecutive top 15 signing classes without beating out the "big boys" for some recruits.

I agree, the staff does identify players early. It's just nice to win some of these battles instead of the ones putting in the hard work and someone else comes in and pics steals him away.

If "the first time in over a decade" means the last 4 years in Crazy talk, then yes we are in agreement. :good!:

Yes, sorry if I wasn't clear. :hi:

I meant in the Butch era we are back to competing against the big boys in recruiting and winning many of those battles. And I feel that as our instate talent continues to grow, as long as we are winning enough on the field, then we will have the advantage with the majority of those recruits, and we will be even more competitive with the Bamas and tOSUs, as it won't be as difficult as it is attempting to pull elite kids from other states.

We compete against them EVERY year...the difference being this staff is actually competitive.

Edit: Sorry, looks like Ivan beat me to the point...

FYI, our ole buddy Byron D-bag is on the prowl with Carvin. He apparently already has Jordan Davis's ear.
