HUDL: Ollie Lane - Hudl

Haven't heard much on this OL. He plays at Gibbs, which was my high school, and I know they don't play the strongest competition. He received an offer from Vanderbilt and Missouri this week.

May be someone to watch and see if he continues to grow and develop.
Ugh. His rivals link is to some other kid, with no rankings and plays CB

I wonder what Frind thinks about Ollie after evaluating him. Keeper, thanks but no thanks. Many times a new staff won't honor the previous staffs recruits, especially if they aren't a good fit scheme-wise. It won't be wise to nix Ollie due to him being from K'Town.

Why? If he doesn’t fit the scheme or is we can land someone better, then why should we honor his commitment because he’s local? I understand exactly where you are coming from, but you know what? Local kids can take a hike! They sure don’t have a problem telling TN to take a hike...yeah, I’m looking at you, Cade, Tee, and Amari.

Getting over where kids are from is the first step in recruiting successfully.

Yea we gotta protect those relationships so that when those 5*'s come along in our backyard once every few years we continue to not land them...

Location doesn't matter but the HS/community does. If you take a commit from a marginal kid from a school that regularly pumps out talent you better have a good reason to drop them.

New staff. If they are honest with them NOW and let them go then it is better for the kid to find a new home. If they try to hold onto them just to get someone better and then cut them right before signing day, that would be a big problem. Tell them now and the coaches should understand what is happening. This is why I had no issue with kids looking around after Butch was fired.

I'm certainly not on DH4's level as a talent evaluator, but I remember watching Lane's film when he committed and being impressed with his quickness for a big guy.

Yes that is definitely true. I would cut a kid who grew up a block from campus rather than a kid from IMG or Hoover.

Oh, I get it. Don't get my comment wrong. I was leaning to the fanbase and how they would react to a LOCAL kid getting nixed by a Bama implant is all. I want the best to play, if he isn't good enough for CJP, then he just isn't. I won't los sleep if he's not called or anyone else for that matter to include Cade.

"Offensive line coach Don Mahoney was in Knoxville on Wednesday and made a trip to Gibbs High School to check in on 2018 offensive lineman Ollie Lane. Tennessee has not offered Lane, who does have offers from Vanderbilt, Missouri and Wisconsin. "

I can say I've never really thought we recruited our own state as well as we should have. Tennessee should have it locked down, but they don't.

Its been a while but didn't someone post a factoid that we have actually kept the third most instate talent among the P5?

Rob Lewis said on Sports Talk that he thought the coaches wanted Ollie. Said he visited unofficially this past weekend.

OV this weekend...

THE SKINNY: The Gibbs product has remained a strong Tennessee commit for eight months. The offensive guard has received interest from other schools (namely Nebraska and Wisconsin) but Lane will visit this weekend, sign on Dec. 20 and enroll at Tennessee in January.
