'18 TN QB/WR Alontae Taylor (UT commit 6/18/16)

Alontae Taylor is Juaan Jennings 2.0 and GT finishes 2nd and that's just 1st loser

No doubt he's going to be a excellent player.

Only chance he flips is if something were to happen to Butch Jones.

True, 2nd is 1st loser. Something I hope we're not come Sep 4th :)

I don't think you are second either. I was told by a high school coach, one of DJ Taylor's coaches who just signed with Wake Forest, that the only place Alontae would flip to is Wake. Alontae and DJ are cousins and are apparently very close. The coach tried to make it sound like Tennessee should be concerned… I laughed. No way an elite prospect is going to choose wake forest over Tennessee.

I know it come down to UT and GT before he committed to you guys.

I'm not saying we're second or anything, just what I think we're trying to do by getting him to take a OV. If he only takes a OV to UT and GT then I would say we are definitely second.

But being honest here what does it really matter. Odds of him going to UT are probably close to 100%.

The in-state prospect from Manchester has stopped communicating with Alabama and Georgia.

“Alabama was, they were,” Taylor said. “I was supposed to go there Monday, but I canceled on that. I’m not going to Alabama, period. I don’t want to hear anything else about Alabama. They buzz me a lot. Georgia buzzes me a lot. I think they are starting to get the idea.

Figure if not posted some would appreciate this.

From SEC Country

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee commit Alontae Taylor has flirted with the idea of taking a visit to Georgia or Alabama. That notion can be laid to rest.

Taylor has said he will take an official visit to Tennessee and has a personal reason to take one to Georgia Tech.

“I’m going into my senior season, I don’t want to worry about recruiting. I have my two official visits, that’s it. Any other school can sleep on me.”

Taylor remains adamant that Tennessee is the only school for him because of his connection with everything around the team.

“We pulled up today and I’m just home,” Taylor said. “I’m comfortable here and comfortable with the players. I’m just home. It’s just a different feeling, and when I visit other schools I just don’t feel it like I do here.”

Taylor has played quarterback throughout his career at Coffee County Central High School. Georgia Tech’s triple option scheme would allow Taylor to continue to play at quarterback.

Tennessee and the majority of other schools in pursuit of Taylor project him as a wide receiver because of his speed and playmaking ability.

Taylor ranks as the No. 133 prospect in the country and the No. 28 wide receiver, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Taylor has devoted the summer to working on his wide receiver skills. He attended Tennessee’s final camp of the summer last week to continue his work.

“Anyone can run a go ball,” Taylor said. “I’m trying to work on routes that most guys don’t work on, like comebacks, curls, slants and digs.”

Be good for JJ to stay his senior year so he can properly hand off the baton.

Actually it would be much better for us in recruiting if Jauan Jennings has a huge season and gets drafted in the 1st or 2nd round next year.

The 2019 instate wide receiver class is loaded. We could end up with as many as 4 in-state receivers ranked in the top 100-200 players nationally. It would be a lot easier to recruit them to Tennessee if they see that we had our leading WR drafted in consecutive years including one going in the 1st or 2nd round.

So for recruiting purposes I would much rather see Jauan leave early next year.

That's actually a good point. But would we rather have him on campus for his production in 2019? That should be a big year for us with all the returning talent we'll have.

I would much rather have JJ for four years as I doubt that would make much difference on the recruiting landscape opposed to having a senior WR crush it.

Are you serious? The NFL Draft is the biggest factor players use when deciding where to go. Why do you think we struggled in recruiting last year so much while having a much better time this year? It isn't just the coaching changes. Last year opposing teams were using the lack of draft picks the last 2 years to attack us in recruiting. Then we had 6 players drafted in the first 4 rounds this year and voila we now have a top 5 recruiting class as August approaches.

I guarantee you that if Jauan Jennings gets drafted high next year it would help us in recruiting the stellar 2019 instate wide receiver class more than anything else. We could just tell them come to Tennessee where we send wide receivers to the NFL every year.

Great point and I agree. Especially if some of the sophomore WR show out this year like I'm betting they will

Calm down. Would I rather have JJ for a fourth year of owning the SEC or some 2019 wr prospect? If he came back he would most likely be drafted as high or higher in APRIL of 2019. That would help us just as much with the 2019 CLASS.

Ummm, I think you know the answer.

actually agree with D4H.

I refuse to give him a like, but I agree. For Jennings to go that high he would have to have a spectacular year. which means good things for us.

No it wouldn't. Signing day is before the draft. And just in case you make this argument, kids are not convinced by draft projections. They need to "see it to believe it". Having guys projected to get drafted high in this year's draft didn't help us with the class of 2017.

I doubt telling recruits in 2019 that Jauan will get drafted high will help us either. They need to see the results to believe it.
