Seriously though, I think it is reprehensible to use a persons faith as a tool to recruit them to play football. It looks like intelligent people would not be naive, and see through it. Butch may not be a strong Christian, I really don't know, but I do know his commitment to turning out solid citizens prepared for real life is unquestioned. That would be enough for me.

It's probably some sleazy pastor at one of those ridiculous mega churches with ~10,000 members that has somehow convinced the members of his church that god realllly wants him to have a private jet.

Agreed.

It is one thing to me if a coach shares his faith with a recruit that he has built a strong relationship with, but a pastor trying to use their "faith" as a recruitment tool for their favorite college is beyond disgusting.

Using something like this probably ends up losing you more recruits than it gains you. That's snake oil salesman type tactics. Smart kids and parents see through this most of the times.

Pretty sure that's grounds for eternal damnation last time I checked the big book

I think Dante described a special spot in the lower portions of hell for folks that use religion for their personal gain. I believe they were covered from head to toe with gold and they had to move constantly or the gold would heat up and burn them. Something like that. The long and short of it is, I think that sort of thing is frowned upon.

Wow...that's gotta hurt.
