Maybe Kirby just isn't that good of a coach and was overhyped during the offseason?
I think it's simple. Unlike Butch, Kirby took over a 10 win program that had never had a downturn in recruiting. He also came in and solidified a solid first class that Richt left behind.
He then used the hype to get a top 5 class but prospects from 2018 watched a product that declined significantly in his first year. He is now in a position where prospects want to believe what is really happening vs blindly joining.
Is he Muschamp (I think he is) or is he a young Saban? This is a pressure packed year for him already in year 2.

To be fair, there's been chatter from a lot more than VN and rival coaches that Butch won't be around much longer.
Also, to be fair to the kid, he can google top 5 hot seat coaches and will see CBJ name on most. Not hard to sell if you are an opposing coach. Reality? Probably not, he would have to go 6-6 or 7-5 but media knows Tn fans doesn't accept just being mediocre.
Here's a bold prediction. Kirby Smart will be on a hotter seat than Butch Jones coming out of the season.
If coaching chatter it's affecting his decision he should just wait for the season to play out and then make his final decision.
Number one, who would like this post? Number two, the dude has built the program back up and finally has momentum and a revamped staff, why would he leave?
Nobody's implying that he's leaving. But his name has been around the top of every coaching hot seat list made since December.
Sure, those paying close attention to the program can see Things aren't as bad as many are making them out to be, but you'd have to mindfully NOT paying attention to have not heard rumblings that Butch may be on the way out if things don't go well this year.
If UGA or UF had a HC in Butch's position and an in state kid of theirs was hesistant to sign with them because he was worried he'd have a new HC in a year or even sooner, we'd all probably be praising this kid for keeping his ear to the ground.
You've gotta remember, it's HIS future he's thinking about. If he's concerned Butch won't be here to coach him, he's well within his rights to take that into account.
That is true but he could find the same situation in the other schools he is considering Georgia and Auburn so the reasoning is flawed.
