'18 UT QB Cammon Cooper

I've been ok with the Canales hire all along, but understand that he was probably the biggest question mark hire of all the coaches this off season, for most fans. To date though, I have seen nothing about him that says anything other than he was another good hire by CBJ.

Time will tell whether it is fact or not, but so far, I'm impressed with the job he is doing.

I like that his main focus is on footwork because it seems that was Dobbs' greatest weakness (led to inaccurate throws) and if Dobbs had bad footwork then maybe the other QBs do also

Quarterbacks are looking good in practice. Good sign so far. He's gotta catch him a recruit though

If we had to pick either Cooper or Mayden which one of these QB's would you guys want? I know Martinez is first option but if we can't flip him what about one of these two? I still like Rogers, Foster, & Penix myself but these two QB's are right up there with them. Thanks.

"The 6-foot-4, 200-pound lefty completed 64 percent of his pass attempts for 4,059 yards and 38 touchdowns in 12 games as a junior last season."

Not too shabby.

He's probably 4-6 on the QB board. I don't think we will have to go that far down

FWIW,

I saw that Georgia offered him when he visited there a few days ago. I'm feeling better about UT getting a top notch QB in this class after missing on Lawrence, Jones, and Fields. The QB recruit might not have the ceiling of those 3, but will be able to play at this level and if surrounded by the talent that's being assembled on the O-Line will be more than sufficient.

"I really loved that visit," Cooper said of Tennessee. "It's the best of the best there and the fans are great. Being in that stadium was something cool to be a part of. They had like 40,000 fans there for a spring game in the rain, so it was crazy to see. It looks like they're taking two quarterbacks this year and they've told me they're looking for a pure passer. They've said I'm the most accurate passer they've seen on film after watching everybody. I'm a thrower than can run, not a runner that can throw, and they feel that's a good fit for their offense.-Scout

Looking for a pure passer?

I read in an article that Penix considers himself a pocket passer as well and Martinez certainly looks like one.

Are we trending away from the dual threat type?

Penix is a good athlete, and Martinez is dual-threat. So, no.

Edit: because I can't spell and Newt is a jerk.
