'19 GA QB Zach Calzada (In transfer portal)

Great quarterback tradition? That’s been the most forgettable position on UGA’s team since the 70’s. I applaud him if he’s heard of Fran Tarkenton. There’s a few exceptions. David Greene played for UGA until he was 50, but had a solid career (although a choker). Aaron Murray was a great college QB. Fromm had a good year.

The one big thing I remember about David Greene is him giving us the Hobnail boot. He sure didn’t choke then. I’ve hated UGA ever since and I was a little kid then

To be fair what great QB’s has UT produced since this kid has been alive? Ainge, Bray, and Dobbs?

I put that on the pooch kick and the mustang defense more than any kind of talent on that Georgia team. There is a reason that Fulmer and Chavis are not coaching here anymore.

I hate how much that game is talked about because it was really meaningless. It was the only regular season game UT lost. It did nothing to hurt our season.

Can't forget the iceman, Casey Clausen. Although I don't think that he would have remembered seeing him play :)

Thats true. Crompton also had one good year under Kiffin. I remember he killed UGA that year. Richt and maybe it was Willie Martinez had no answer for the countless bootlegs that game.

We had been beating them like a drum for a while before Richt. I think it meant a lot more to them because of that.

If entire coaching staffs have been turned over, why does it matter who the program has produced at a given position? It should matter more that Helton coached Darnold up and Chaney coached Brees, Fromm, etc. David Greene or Matthew Stanford or even Dobbs for that matter should barely factor in. If that were such a big factor, we should have every 5* in the country beating our door down because our program produced the GOAT, Peyton Manning.

If I'm a QB I'm looking more at current staff than history of other staffs. If you are in power 5 especially SEC the NFL will find you especially at a TN, UGA, FL, Bama, Auburn, LSU level name. All those always get the TV listings because of fan base views.

Helton has done some really nice work with QBs at each stop with a recent top pick in darnold to pitch.

If I am a QB and i am looking at the QB coaches in SEC I'd probably prefer playing for a Chaney, Helton, Enos(Bama), or Mullen. Those guys have shown ability to develop a QBs.

I agree with you on that. I just brought up the recent tradition since someone said UGA had none compared to UT in that time frame. Some how Chaney gets away with saying he coached Brees, but I honestly don't think that's how UGA gets its QB's. IMO Fields and Fromm came because it was the hot school at the time as well as being in state. As far as OC's go I wouldn't argue about Helton over Chaney. Chaney was ok last year outside of a few games, but the fact that he went to the locker room early before half time and Coley called the plays after the squib kick may be the reason Kirby fought so hard to keep him.

Wasn't aware of the last part

lol sounds even worse in his interview. From the ajc,
"And the pass play that was set it up, which was called without the offensive coordinator, who was in an elevator and didn’t even know it was happening. Jim Chaney, Georgia’s offensive coordinator, was already en route from the press box to the locker room.“I’m coming down with five or seconds left, and I didn’t have any idea,” Chaney said."
So given this, I might be a bit hesitant if I was QB recruit knowing that my OC could be anywhere at any given time...:lolabove:

I remember my dad screaming at the top of his lungs at the tv when we pooched it. Such an awful collapse and the commentator made it that much worse
