The guy was pure evil. He was mentally ill. You all constantly focus on and go after the guns. He was armed with an AR and a semiautomatic handgun. A law already exist that prevents him from purchasing the handgun. More gun laws will do zero to stop it. If he couldn't purchase them here he could simply walk across a porous border and buy a fully automatic firearm and walk back across.

Let’s mourn for now. Nobody makes rational decisions with emotions like this involved. Allow those to subside before we debate. I’m heartbroken for these families as I have five young children. I cannot even imagine the pain. Prayers for them all.

I’ve never seen a foot in mouth post like this in my lifetime. You are a smart guy so it makes it even more hilarious. It would be pretty ghastly to try to use 19 murdered children to affirm someone else’s hateful world view.

Since I had one of those anesthesia induced naps earlier today and felt a bit too fuzzy to comment later, I'm risking repeating what somebody else already has posted. The dems will want this to be about guns and gun control. The fact is that these actions are hyped for all they are worth in news and in politics for their sensationalism to support positions. So some guy wanting attention does what is certain to garner attention. For a long time, flying the flag at half mast was done to honor a person of real significance; now it's done to honor victims of random violence - what better way to draw attention to yourself than by being the instrument of a presidential decree. Stop putting these people on page one and making half the news about them, and the world is safer for those who may be future victims.

And of course look at what this has evolved into, yet another ridiculous politicized debate about guns. Jesus Christ. You know one would think when a tragedy like this happens, that the main focus should be on the unfortunate lives lost and the immense suffering for the remaining loved ones. Of course that can’t happen right? We have an idiot president using his political podium to push a ridiculous agenda in light of a tragedy. We have the leftist morons who want to erroneously blame the weapon instead of the weapon wielder as usual.

And that ladies and gentlemen is why this country is permanently broken. Our glorious government has created a climate over decades of division and hate. We have become so blinded by what the media and government thinks. At what point do people realize what things like this truly are? It’s nothing more than pure evil. It’s not white supremacy, illegal aliens, right or left wing. It’s simply evil plain and simply.

There is no way to stop it. You can put whatever limitations you want in place but these things are always going to happen. That’s a hard pill to swallow, especially when the victims are defenseless children.

How about employing the many veterans who are no longer able to work? Arm them and let them patrol schools. Trained soldiers with weapons would be a great deterrent. But I am sure you want to blame the gun right?

I've always liked this idea. Not only do you get people who are comfortable with firearms and have had intense training, the kids also get to develop relationships with veterans outside of their families and develop a better respect and understanding for them.

I mean this is heartbreaking Ash. We are taking about defenseless children here. I am inclined to believe if a potential mass murderer were to see a well armed veteran or 2 at the entrance of their target, it would have a better chance of stopping the attack. I just cannot get behind the gun legislation argument.

I always liked the words Charlie Daniels said. “Their trying to take our guns away and that would be just fine, if you take them away from the criminals first I’ll gladly give you mine.”
