Yeah the SEC is really killing it this post season. You might not like it but sometimes better talent ends up in a lesser conference. This wouldn’t be the first time. It’s really laughable of you to write of his stats just because of where he plays. I can think of some adjectives to describe your statements as well. Young ain’t one of them. It’s hilarious when you guys think we have the best just because we’re vols.
🤦‍♂️ Yea the sec is falling apart. Boise state is right up there in conference play huh. The guy broke records that stood for a hundred years ya goof. And if you wanna **** on the vols some more and act like that’s not a big deal. He finished third all time for tds by a rb in the sec. I can think of plenty of adjectives as well hun, but young was the best alternative trust me. It’s laughable to write his stats bc of the conference he plays 😂😂 oh my fkin god , I almost died laughing at your comment.

Guess the NFL will decide here in a few months “hun”. And here you’ll be still thinking you’re right and more competent at judging talent than NFL scouts that are paid to do so. Not surprising.

I will say this about OSU‘s Oline coach. He really knows how to coach holding and get away wi it. Seems all their holding penalties are call on their WRs.

I already said idc if the guy goes first , second , third , or hell even 6th. Sampson will be a great player in the NFL. I’m just confused about the whole process of what you’re doing. Arguing with vol fans bc they think Sampson should be a high pick, and you all to happy to side with the scouts by dis crediting Sampsons amazing season bc he’s not “Jeanty” 😂 Real nice

What I’m doing? Being realistic. Heaven forbid. You’ll find nowhere in this thread where I said Sampson won’t be a good back at the next level.

You being realistic went out the window when you said I shouldn’t bring up the conference a player plays in.

Like I said, we’ll see who was being more realistic come draft day. That’s the metric whether you like it or not. Plenty of scouts out there accounting for conferences played in, records broken, etc.

I think we have over valued Sampson just because he’s ours if we’re being honest. He isn’t a “once in a lifetime, generational type back”. Sure he was great for us but he didn’t do anything outlandish. Each NFL team probably already has 1-2 backs on the squad as talented or nearly as talented. Add in that the position isn’t as valued as it once was and he falls to late rounds. He will likely fall to a team and be used along with another 1-2 backs per game. Like most teams are now doing.

No.

I cannot tell you how many times even when we were not doing well in the rest of the game that EVERYONE knew the ball was going to Sampson and yet they couldn’t stop him from getting that 3 yards for a first.

The problem was too often trying to have him get the long yards when the opposing team was loading our box because they knew we couldn’t connect down field.

Even against that, Sampson excelled, except for his inexplicable 1 fumble per game.

Yet he ranked Peyton ahead of Leaf and gave Manning his 3-4 highest grades ever.
LOL. Look up " Mel Kiper's highest graded quarterback ratings include three busts" with one of them being his slobbering over Leaf. My point being, take anything MK says with a generous dose of salt.

Also: "5 times Mel Kiper Jr was embarassngly wrong about draft picks."

Don’t disagree with any of that. He was great for us. I think he’ll have a career in the nfl. I just don’t think he’s going to be another Adrian Peterson like some here like to think.

You make it sound like he's the only one.
You could do the same about any draft analyst.

Have to face the records. Mel has not been very accurate in his QB rankings for drafting QBs. I think it is kinda funny that he has been so inaccurate.

Not even really about Kiper specifically but Leaf is a cautionary tale that no amount of raw talent will overcome being a headcase. Same kinda thing with Jamarcus Russell.

I have seen him go as late middle second and Sampson in the 6th
A lot of pundits are knocking Sampson for pass-blocking and the fumbles. I don't think that's it, I think this draft class is just super deep at RB a lot are saying the deepest RB class ever. So a lot of guys who would have been 2nd and 3rd round backs are gonna slip a few rounds unless there is a run on them in the second. So much so there is a good chance Quinshon Judkins comes back for his senior year. Pearce I think goes top10 easy. He can play the run and there is tape to prove it plus he will show out at the combine.

And ? 😂 I wonder how many sec players have went “so early”. Freaking sad attempt at being a troll. Your name to me from here on out is, LegionnaireOfTheWAC.
My point is that you have to be an idiot to think that players from outside the SEC cannot have success in the SEC or that any good SEC player is automatically better than any player from outside the SEC. You’d probably pick Trent Richardson over LaDainian Tomlinson, for instance.

The leading rusher in the SEC in 2023 was a transfer from a D2 school who went undrafted, so if you think Ashton Jeanty couldn’t thrive in the SEC, you’re not too bright.

Calm down Carl. No one said he wasn’t good. But he’s also not jeanty. Unless you’ve got your orange glasses on. I think he can have a great career in the NFL. But he’s not going to be a guy getting 30 carries a game either. That’s just the nfl now, along with he never showed much as a pass catcher. Part of that was coaches not using him properly imo.
It's not just Jeanty. This is an extremely deep RB class. You have the rb's from Iowa, UNC, Arizona State, PSU, Oregon Kansas, SMU Michigan and the 2 from OSU. Most sites have Sampson ranked anywhere from mostly in the 8-12 range to as high as 4 on some. The only 3 backs pretty much universally in the top 5 are Jeanty, Hampton and Johnson most sites have them universally 1 2 3 and all the other backs vary in rankings wildly from on to another. Sampson is like the top of the second batch on most. Sampson's big knocks are size, pass-blocking and fumbles. Sampson is expected to be the fastest of the top backs but also the smallest. Also all of these other guys had hype coming into the season. Pearce is in a similar situation being one of the smallest (weight) in the EDGE class, all the guys his height have 20+ pounds on him making them more scheme versatile. They both have the tag of not a 3-down guy. The scouts words not mine. Like Sampson Pearce is projected to be one 0of the fastest at his position and both have to be in the combine because of the size issues.

It's a long way till the draft and a lot can change between now and then with the combine and choices. There is a good chance at least some of the Junior backs drop out (Judkins is rumored to be doing so).

Depends on what you call high? If someone is expecting him to go first round they are on crack. Most years there are 1-2 taken. 2023 and 2022 none. This years class is so deep there is a good chance teams wait and backs drop 1 round. There will likely be a big run on backs in the late second early third round where Sampson and most of the backs not named Jeanty, Hampton and Johnson will go. Unless Jeanty just lays a brick in the combine he will go first round. Sampson's best bet is to run fast and show really soft hands. I think that's one place in this offense he was severely underutilized. The rare times he got the ball thrown to him good things normally happened.
