Let's say that you have the first pick in the draft and you are taking the best available, who would you take and why?

Adrian Peterson. good rb's are a good place to start to build a team around. i'm not sold on any of the qb's in the draft. this draft is real deep in WR....so that's where i'd start.

Unless there is a homerun QB, I take the best OL or DL. Teams are built from the lines out.

I'll take Russell. He's got the Vince Young/Vick running ability with a much better arm than both combined.

yeah, i agree...but who is that this year? the best player in the draft is AP.

Yeah, but for the value, is that the right pick? Is he going to be a LT? I would probablt trade down in a year like this and get more picks. It is interesting how unnoticed the Jets previous draft was, no skill position players taken in the first round. They took 2 offensive lineman, that pretty much played all year and contributed to a team that made the playoffs. A team that no one in hell picked to make the playoffs. Meanwhile, teams like the Lions flounder around in mediocrity with their picks.

Russell is going to be a very very good NFL QB or he is going to be the biggest bust ever. It is just a matter of which team is willing to take that chance. As for the 1st pick of the draft, I would take Peterson. He was NFL ready as a Fr. at Oklahoma. He is, by far, the best player in the draft.

Wouldn't you say Russell and Vick also have similar arm strength?

Joe Thomas is probably the best lineman in the draft, or the guy from Michigan (Long? Is he even in the draft or am I making that up?), if that's the route you want to go.

I would take Peterson but it would be very tempting to take Russell. He just seems like a QB that belongs with the Raiders.

I wonder what the chances are of Russell or Quinn pulling an Eli and refusing to go to Oakland or Detroit?

Playing in Oakland looks a little different today than yesterday. They actually have a moderately good defense, and Kiffen could really put some life in the offense after a couple of years. Quinn or Russell could do a lot worse...read Detroit....

I would say Calvin Johnson or Puz (the MLB from Penn State) depending on what side of the ball you need help with. These would be my top choice's if I had a decent QB. The Raiders should take Russell though.

Quinn or Russell. They need a QB in a bad way. Aaron Brooks and Andrew Walter are not very good. They need a RB too but with the #1 pick I'd go with a QB.

Let's look at the best at each position:

QB: Russell or Quinn
RB: Peterson
WR: Johnson
OL: Thomas (Jake Long is staying in school)
DT: Branch
DE: Adams?
LB: Posluzny or Willis
CB: Hall or the Fresno state kid
S: Landry

The best overall player has to be Peterson, Thomas, Johnson, or Branch, IMO.

Quinn will be drafted first QB. Adams as first DE. Poz as first LB. I wouldn't be surprised to see Reggie Nelson end up the #1 S. No idea on CB. Of course, there could always be a combine freak that sends him to the top of his position chart.

I would go with Calvin Johnson. He is a beast at 6'4, 225 lbs., and 4.4 speed. Not to mention his huge vertical (I can't remember what exactly it is). He put up great numbers at Tech with double coverage and an average at best QB.

AP is getting a lot of love in this thread, but I just don't see him as a superstar in the NFL. He reminds me a lot of Chris Brown. He runs upright a lot and has big durability concerns. While he will be a better pro than Brown, I still don't think he is worth the #1 pick.

And call me crazy, but I think Quinn will be a bust in the NFL. As soon as Weis went to ND, Quinn became the "next Tom Brady". I just don't see it. Yeah, he makes some great throws at times; but I also have seen a ton of throws that just make you say "What the...?".

You're confident that Davis and Co. actually take the better QB? I doubt it.

Two words: Robert Gallery.

I like Thomas, though.

For the sake of argument, isn't that why you go for Thomas?

Russell doesn't know where his ball is going half the time.

Slide Gallery over to right tackle with a hair cut and put Thomas on the left side.

If they are that hard up for linemen, keep Walker at right tackle and make Gallery a guard.

Thomas, Walker, Gallery, Sims and Grove.
