2-Deep Roster: Colton Jumper AJ's backup?

I love it when a young player confounds the experts on VN.

Hmmmmm, maybe this is one of CBJs little #s tricks? CJ may be Scholly 33 for this class.

He offers him a preferred walk on and scholly when someone quits. Paying for UT is about 1/2 price compared to his high school. His parents have to be loaded to send him to Baylor itfp.
So, to get a shot at his dream school, dad just drops 15-20 Gs for the 1st year and doesn't look back.
He'll be on full ride next season and Butch got to over recruit!

Just my theory.

Makes sense to me bro.

This 2 deep roster is somewhat perplexing. I knew our depth was thin just not this thin.

It's just incredible the lengths people will go to put a positive spin on a walk-on being in the 2 deep at middle linebacker. Despite the great recruiting, we still have serious depth issues. Too many people look at the depth chart and conclude that the freshmen and walk ons that are in the 2 deep must mean those players are incredibly talented and SEC ready, when in reality it most likely means there wasn't real competition at their position when they arrived, which means the depth is still in bad shape. Things will be much better next year imo, but this year might be rough at times.
You can choose to be pessimistic or optimistic. Obviously, you enjoy the former. You purposefully choose to focus on any perceived negative and rail on our own players at the first chance. Hardly the qualities of a true fan. Sounds more like a Bammer troll than a Vol fan.

I can't believe people on here are questioning the coaches, and questioning Colton's ability. His film looks good, but I am not a registered VN scout. This kid is a legacy and chose to walk on and pay out of his own pocket to give his all for UT, but we got jack wads and feeble minded fools freaking out.
Calm down, Nancy Kneejerk. Anytime a player most of us have NEVER heard of, suddenly breaks into the 2 deep roster to start the season...it's a NATURAL thing to be surprised. You can step down off the top of your desk, now....and go get a cold one. You obviously need it.

Does anyone think that had AJ turned pro after last season that CJ would be the starter at MLB right now? I don't.

I don't think so either! Is Bynum, King,& Bryant all injured or something? I just thought any of these 3 would be ahead of Jumper on the depth chart to begin the season anyhow. That's no matter what LB position they are chosen for. :eek:hmy:

Looks like you thought wrong..A lot of people thought wrong on Swafford, Although the 2nd best player on his high school team, he was 2nd fiddle to Malik Foreman at DB for 4 years. He balled out in college , it happens some trend up , some stay flat and some just drop off the ledge.

I understand what you're saying BUT there was absolutely no chat about Jumper being our #2 MLB behind AJ during fall camp. I rarely even seen his name mentioned to be honest. I think Fingers did a couple of times but not much at all.

It's just shocking to me with nothing coming from his name during camp. I hope he plays & does well. I'm not against him or any other Vol for that matter but I'm certainly surprised by this on the depth chart.

I agree, and anyone who says they saw this coming is just kidding themselves.

I didn't see him as the backup at MLB...but I didn't see him redshirting either...figured he'd be active on special teams...people are trying to process their disappointment in this development...Ithinkwemighthavefoundafuturestar. :gone:

I feel the opposite! I DID see him redshirting this season considering the talent we supposedly have around him at his position. Just shows we can't look past walk-ons & any other low level recruits either. Kind of reminds me of Nick Reveiz. We know how good of a Vol he became at MLB.
