Your right as usual OLDVOL. How could anyone defend ESPN..They don't like TN because TN doesn't play well in the largest TV markets. The biggest markets are the NE, West Coast, East Coast and Mid west. TN doesn't play well in those markets so ESPN doesn't like TN. As such they obviously promote the teams in the biggest markets at the expense of those in the smaller markets..It's all about the money. Yes ESPN doesn't like TN because TN doesn't make them any money. IF TN was located in Boston, The nation would be ORANGE!

Ramblin' boy, why don't you settle down?
Boston ain't your kind of town.
There ain't no gold and there ain't nobody like me.
I'm the number one fan of the man from Tennessee.

Southern California is a tough freakin' school...

Every college athlete has to pass a certain amount of hours in order to play the following season I think its 24 hours they have to pass in order to play in the Fall again and you cannot count classes you take in the summer as passing the required 24 hours.

Also, with the Peyton scandal (and it was) where is the play in a race that is all but over when it starts. If they had left off the Woodson campaign (and it was) and just reported on the games without passing out Vote For Woodson fliers with every breath, Peyton would have won the Heisman in a walk.

It just goes to show you how easy the media types are that vote for the darned thing. They didn't impress on that one. They let ESPN do their thinking for them.

My first post, so I apologize in advance if I haven't worked the controls properly.

ESPN's coverage and remarks about TN have been a source of discomfort, if not outrage, for some time now. First, let me point out that sensationalism sells. Why should sports be any different than other media venues? If you're angry... you've likely read or watched something that set you off. That's their primary focus. Revenue. Hits on the website. Sold papers. This all translates to C.O.B..

I suspsect there's not an "I hate TN" subculture in existence there. It's more likely a few well-placed alumni from less-prestigious schools who are in a position to inflict paper cuts. Call it "pencil envy". With them, of course, being the enviers.

Instead of getting overheated, may I suggest an alternative? Who owns ESPN? Rhetorical question, I know. Who advertises with them? Calls and letters of a civil nature to both advertisers and management will... in the long term... get results. The bottom line is money, in any business.

Of course, this is just my humble opinion. Seems to me, though, all this energy could be directed in an effective manner. It may well get results, too!

I dunno, even UT alums will take pot shots at us from time to time on ESPN. Dare I cite the funny looking guy that writes for the Denver Post, Woody Paige??? Rarely have I heard him say a good word about our programs, but often heard criticism.

Then let your arms dangle free, wiggle your fingers, close your eyes and chant, "Goosfraba... goosfraba.... goosfraba."

You should really get some looks in the office with that one.

ESPN gets sensationalism. They don't care whose name they tarnish in the process, but they have no particular bias towards any school. Peyton just happened to be on the wrong end of the stick during 1997. If Tennessee goes on a big undefeated run next year, I'm pretty sure ESPN will be singing the praises of Fulmer and crew. After all, he will have beaten the mighty Steve Spurrier, Urban Meyer, LSU and Florida on the road, the slightly down but always tough Mark Richt, and Charlie Wies at Notre Dame.

I hope UT goes undefeated but don't bet on them singing Fulmer's praises.

I will.

I can hear it. If we make it out of the Swamp and the Bayou unbeaten, listen for ESPN commentators to say "There are few teams in the land better than Tennessee." Face it, we are slated to have a huge season. ESPN thinks so, too. We live up to expectations, ESPN proves themselves right and will sell Tennessee as a top MNC contender. You know why? Because we're who is WINNING.

Well, I remember the last time we were a preseason top five and how embarrassing it was NOT to live up to expectations. I said then that I would NEVER again get excited about preseason rankings because they are worthless. As for us going undefeated? No way. Flame me all you want, but our schedule is BRUTAL.

No flames from me. I think you're right. I think it's nuts to EVER predict an undefeated year.
