2 QB's

They probably knew he was seriously considering committing to BC and wanted to show him a little more so he might delay his decision. And how long did he really delay his decision? Didn't he announce like a day or so after he originally planned?

If I remember correctly, Rettig committed around 2-4 days after UT offered but I think that if UT had offered after the ut camp, he would have been yours but UT waited over a month and after he started getting the love from other schools.

I really liked him as a SC recruit but the entire world was sold on JS.

I see that Shreve might be high on USC's list even with the JS commit. Any views on him?

I agree that it could have been handled better, but I don't think it was sinister. He was originally to commit on July 25, but when Milton hit the go button, I feel like JS spazzed and from there it was one thing after the other. I think it gives him too much credit, honestly, to think that he was intentionally trying to screw up our QB situation. Seriously, did he seem like the kind of kid worried about helping his future teammates or a self centered 17 yr ol waiting for days to see himself on TV? I wish him well at USC.:)

Dang guys read his post again. He wasn't insinuating that js delayed his announcement so that it would hurt UT's recruiting, but rather that a consequence of js not telling our coaching staff as soon as he knew that he was going to USC was that we missed out on other quarterbacks. Now with that said, I also think our coaching staff probably knew before it was aired on TV, and I think they also have handled the recruiting of a quarterback poorly on occassion.

Scroggins told the coaching staff 1week+ before his announcement.

I wouldn't want Scroggins at this point...I hope Barkley keeps his fanny cemented to the bench for 4 full years, for pulling the little stunt he did.

He admitted to an interviewer in LA that he told Carroll 3 weeks before he announced that he was committing to USC. During that time, we lost out on Rettig and Rees.
If he had just announced then, or let our staff know, then Rettig would very likely be committed to us right now...and we'd be talking about who the 2nd one is going to be.

Scroggins is a litte punk....yeah I said that.

you didnt want him before he committed anyways. youd be an idiot to not accept his commit, just as youd be an idiot for saying that hes not one of the top QBs.

I actually did not like Jesse from the start. He is not as good as his ego has him believing. Of course we did not help. We made what would be an OK qb recruit some years feel like he was Matt Barkeley. Now he will find out he is not. However, I would take him in heart beat. He would help the school with recruits and may end up being a good player. I think he could get beat out himself if we land one of the biggies on 11'. But as far as my opinion of him, I believe he is a quack who thinks way too much of himself.

You just posted a conspiracy theory and now you want someone to give you facts....:eek:lol::eek:lol:
I didn't say a damn thing about a conspiracy. Get that through your thick skull.
I said the kid deliberately waited to announce so he could get his face on ESPN. I said that's fine, but he should have the balls to tell Coach Kiffin he decided to commit to SC the same time he told Carroll. Do you have a problem with that? If you do, then you got no place to be scoffing at anyone here.

That's just Courtesy 101. It's my opinion that Scroggins is a little punk, and I'm sticking with it.

I did like him before, I just never did care for his little waiting game. As prospects started dropping off the board in rapid succession, it was obvious to everyone...including Scroggins, that we would be up shiite creek without a paddle if he made us wait that long and chose SC. I'm not sore one little bit that he chose them. I'm just concerned that his little stunt cost us a good prospect, whom I liked just as much (Rettig).

That's why I was saying in late June and early July that we should go ahead and offer Rettig and just let Jesse know that we couldn't hold the door open for him indefinitely. If he was serious at all about committing to UT then he'd step up his decision. Instead we stuck our necks out, afraid to injure his fragile feelings.

I think CLK has learned from this. He said something in an interview afterwards that they would evaluate how they handled the QB recruiting, and try to improve where they can. I'm not sure he'll let himself be at the mercy of a 17yr old for that length of time, again.

And we are in the JUCO period aren't we.
WTH is the JuCo period??? No such animal.

He actually announced before his planned announcement date.
