'20 VA C Dylan Cardwell

Even if that is true, we only get Anosike/Grant for one year and Auburn gets Cardwell/Plavsic for 3 or 4

Well in that case I am taking grant lol.

But your point is why I have said I’d rather have Cardwell with the future in mind

If Cardwell is a career 6 ppg/5 rpg guy, I'd rather have the immediate impact of Anosike. Cardwell would have to develop into an All-SEC type player for me to regret passing.

I think Cardwell is Kyle Alexander 2.0 with a higher ceiling in every aspect of his game, except free throw shooting in their college career. Anything less than 7 and 7 from Anosike this year and some kind of championship/Sweet 16, then I would rather have had Cardwell.

I think us going graduate transfer instead of Cardwell means two things. 1. Barnes feels like Anosike can push us over the top and 2. We have something big for the 2021 recruiting class for us to bypass on Cardwell and to replace Anosike when he is done.

It’s not Anosike vs. Cardwell, unless you’re going to only compare each guy next year...it’s what post player Tennessee lands in 2021 vs. Cardwell. If they land Banchero, Ingram, Bediako etc I’m pretty happy with the trade off.

Well we don’t know what Cardwell is going to be, nor do we know what Anosike will be...but the point remains that simply going off height is pretty foolish.
That is true about height, more about the release that is why Fulkerson and Williams did not have many shots block. One thing that did not help Cardwell in recruitment was not playing his senior year. Things could be different if he did play.

No, I already said I agreed. I just think Cardwell will end up a damn good SEC big man. If Anosike gives us 7 and 7, next year, I will be more than happy, especially when UT has another elite recruiting class next year. I'm still hoping for Chandler, Smith and Banchero

So, out of everything I stated about Cardwell all you got was the height differential. Wow. Barnes doesn't need Cardwell to be anything like GW. He would provide a role that TN needs. An athletic big who is willing to rebound and play defense. He would be surrounded by plenty of talented scorers. We definitely could've used someone like Cardwell against Texas A&M.

I wish Barnes would’ve kept pursuing Cardwell. He seems like a modern day big: tall, athletic, and mobile. It doesn’t seem like he needs the ball to contribute. UT will need this type of player going forward if we continue to recruit like the 2020 class.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but I’m not seeing where anyone here has enough info to make an informed opinion concerning Cardwell. CRB’s hit rate on recruits is about 50% and that’s been his livelihood for 40 years. Cardwell is an intriguing prospect but Pearl doesn’t know how he will develop either. With CRB’s track record I’ll choose to trust his take on the matter. JMO

Yeah, I'm not sure why that point is so difficult to grasp. Anosike being a 1 year commitment means that if he somehow busts, then you lose very little, and the risk of him busting is very low. Cardwell, on the other hand, isn't some can't-miss prospect, and if he busts, then you've invested significantly more time and resources. Who replaces Anosike will likely be more of a determining factor in whether it was smart to pass on Cardwell, or not.

I've been in the camp that wanted Cardwell because I think he'll be a starter-level SEC big man by the end of his career, but this quote from you is the first time I've seen a counterpoint to taking a grad-transfer over a 4-year player this season stated well. I'm still on the "wish we had gone after him" train but I finally see the other side clearer. Thank you for that.

Agree to an extent, but Keon Johnson missed pretty much his whole senior year and would’ve been pretty highly sought after had he been available this spring.

Really? How many 6’9” plus freshman rode the pine last year? Yet you are assuming he would’ve come in and stolen minutes from Fulk, Pons or ORN...there is a weird obsession (not you specifically) about a fringe Top 150 guy,

And it’s not as if Pearl was begging for Cardwell, they slow played him until May when they finally let him know they would take him...not exactly a guy that Auburn viewed as a can’t miss prospect.
