I was born in 92 and didn't start watching football until 2007. As I was looking back through the history of this series, 2005 caught my eye.... The final score was Bama (6) to UT (3)... SIX TO THREE!?

My question is, people that experienced this boring loss how terrible was it having to sit and watch that game? 0-0 at halftime and then only 3 FG combined were scored. We score on average 10 points a game alone in the 1st quarter now.

The 1990 game was a huge clunker too.

I think we were top 5, and we were loaded with NFL talent. Bama was bad, I think 2 wins and 3 losses. In one of his worst coached games, Majors went hyper conservative. We had a chance to win with a FG but it was blocked and bounced way down field, giving bama a short field for a FG attempt.

Bama won 9-6. Putrid game.

Foster caught a pass and then fumbled out of the back of the endzone

Arian Foster caught a swing pass and headed toward the end zone. Alabama's Roman Harper jarred the ball loose near the goal line and it bounced out of the end zone with 5:08 left, giving the Tide (7-0, 5-0) the ball and stopping Tennessee's hopes of breaking the tie.
That article is incorrect

it was 100% Cory Anderson

(5:08 - 4th) Rick Clausen pass complete to Cory Anderson for 12 yards, fumbled in the endzone, recovered by Alab at the Alab 20.

2005 was probably the second season I remember entirely. I was like 10 or so. My recollection was that we had an ELITE defense and a horrendous offense. Somehow Ainge went from being an awesome freshman to a terrible sophomore, and then an awesome junior and senior. It was a weird year. Our 2006 team was awesome too

Man I remember that game like it was yesterday. I was in my last year of P.T. school at UTC, and I was watching the game in my dorm. I got so pissed that I left my dorm and DROVE to the off-campus football field in Chattanooga just to watch UTC lose to VMI. It was less depressing to watch my (true) alumnus lose to VMI than to see my heart ripped out by watching the debacle from our boys in orange and white.

Ugh.

2005 was such a horrible year as a Vol fan.

Preseason #1? Yep
Failed to make a Bowl? Yep
Barely beat Memphis? Yep
First loss to Vandy in forever? Yep
Fulmer first losing season? Yep

Bad memories, man. Thanks for re-opening the wound.

now we know where the jinx came from!

I actually joined this board the summer before the season just so I could get hyped with other VFLs.

Little did I know the next 5 months would be some of my most painful. The fall from grace was essentially complete by November.

Too bad they didn't fire Hamilton right then and there and clean house.

It was a good defensive matchup and not boring at all. The Vols nearly won the game, but the fullback Cory Anderson had the ball knocked loose by a defenders helmet near the goal line. It was a heartbreaking loss. The 2005 Vols were a huge disappointment and did not even come close to preseason expectations. The defense was good that year though.

Our defense was elite! What a shame. Randy Sanders as OC became the scapegoat. Not saying Cut coming back in 2006 after his Ole Miss departure wasn’t an upgrade. Fulmers inability to get the office going in 2005 and 2008 (Clawsen after Cut left for Duke) is what got him fired.
