WO...means walk on. I would like to see some Mike Linebackers in the 235 - 255 lb range. Like Rolando McLain & Brandon Spikes.

Been a while since UT had a 255lb LB. LOL. I guess L. Little was the closest at around 240-245- but he really played a stand up end.

Who can remember a few 255lb LB's at UT... Was Chuck smith that big? He was a stand up end also Huh?

I think the fact that we had injury after injury at the LB spot caused people to go into panic mode. We had alot of young guys get a some game experience. Only helps us out in the long run.

To me depth means, if someone gets injured can the next guy step in and still get the job done. Not necessarily how many people you have at the position.

That is great. Now if we can somehow get 12 SEC caliber LBs on campus...

Well, I hate to disagree.

Askew
Lathers
Thornton
Thompson
King
Frazier
Smith
Williams
Nelson

All these linebackers were also recruited by one or all of the following Schools.

ALA. UF.LSU. UGA. AU.

And Reveiz has proven to be quite capable..

Sounds like SEC caliber LB's Too me. So what exactly is your point or problem. Just asking. Not trying to be a Smart@$$:dunno:

Sorry man, but you're flat-out wrong. Askew has the physical ability, but has yet to learn a playbook. Frazier and Nick Reveiz are both coming off of serious knee injuries...which means BIG question mark. Nelson is a young, undersized, inexperienced RS FR. Ralph Williams absolutely should be redshirted. NMT was not very impressive as a true frosh, but he does show some potential. Jac Smith is inexperienced and would be playing out of position.

Back to your original list: Jessen, Hawkins, and S. Reveiz have no business playing LB in the SEC. You're mentioning practice squad standouts as additions of depth?! Vereen is gone, also...but others have already pointed that.

We are NOT deep at LB. At the level of football UT is used to playing, Frazier, Thompson and N. Reveiz should be considered depth, not starters. Greg King is a beast and will be great by the time he leaves.

We aren't DEEP, but it's not nearly as concerning a position as others. An incoming linebacker would have to be very talented to earn a starting position on this squad.

I completely understand your point of view except the part "at the level UT is used to playing" Once again we have been used to playing at a pretty average level since 2000-2001.
The Linebackers on this list were recruited by top tier SEC programs. If we cant get them to play that way or haven't given them a chance to live up to their recruiting status then we just have to admit we WHIFFED on 8 LB prospects. I'm not sure that is the case, and if we did WHIFF on all 8 then 3 LB's in this class means nothing. JMO... GBO

That makes much more sense. I agree with most of that, too. Good looking out BOB!

@Codyg

PLEASE....don't post crap on any recruit's Facebook wall. This foolishness scares recruits away. You're not "selling" the program, you're essentially telling the kids that UT fans are creepers. STOP!

The only guys that were heavily recruited on that list are Smith, Askew, Mitchell-Thornton.

I agree. I don't think anyone but UT syaffers should have any contact atll with recruits...

The reason we are OK at LB is we had so many injuries and lots of guys got experience. You would think that the starters next year would be Thompson, Reviez, and Fraizer. Then there are 3-4 guys behind them that played quite a bit last year.

Savion Frazier, Greg King, Lamarcus Thompson, Herman Lathers and Nick Reveiz is a pretty solid group. Robert Nelson, NMT and Askew all have great potential. IMO, we will be fine at LB.

Sab, far be it from me to argue with you, However

Lathers---Offered by LSU,Stanford,Tenn
G. King--- Offered by Bama,Ark,AU,Miami,UNC,Tenn
Frazier--- Offered by V.Tech, Louisville,Tenn
Nelson--- Offered by Aub, Ill, S.Car., WVU. MSU,Tenn
Williams--- Offered by Fla. State,Ark, Ole Miss,Tenn

Just because USC,ND,Fla. or Ohio State isn't on your list, dosen't mean you are not heavily recruited.
These were obviously thought to be SEC caliber players. No?

Nice.

He is a RS Soph walk-on from Memphis.

He is making the move to FB in the spring.

He won Mr. Football in the same league as Marlon Brown.

I think we are solid at LB, if everyone comes back to full strength. The big thing is that a lot of guys got experience in a very solid system last year. If you had to list the top 3 questions going into next season I think they would be:
1. Who is QB? And can they produce?
2. Who plays on the OL?
3. Can the 3 LB with injuries come back to full strength?

MLB- Reviez/Lathers
SLB- Thompson/King (I think King could start here, but I like Thompson)
WLB- Fraizer/Askew/NMT

I think there are 7 guys right there that can play in the SEC and I think there are 4 (NR, SF, GK, LT) who can play at a high level. I was big on NR when he was playing. He was in control of the D and always around the ball. If they are healthy (which they should be), then we are fine at LB, if not then Ralph, Askew, or someone else (Nelson/Jac) will have to step up and they were recruited here to do it. This is def. not a position to be worried about recruiting wise.

I agree. Like I said in the Original post, 1 or 2 playmakers and we are fine there. I think a playmaker or 2 may already be on the roster. GBO
